As a player I vastly prefer role play over hack and slash yet I also have a tendency (as I think most players do) to make my characters as powerful as they can be within their restrictions. Does that mean I min-max to the extreme? Certainly not. Do my barbarians usually have 8 charisma? Yes, by all means.
I have on experience DMing in an online setting so I will not be getting into that just yet -- though I DO have lots of experience DMing home games in 3.0 and 3.5 in the past, so my knowledge should be fairly up-to-date and accurate with regards to pnp and D&D lore questions.
