DM Title: Exemplary Story Teller of the Third Circle
Player Experience Points: 58
I am currently running Gruenal's Gambit, which is my own original design and story. The story takes place in the Dalelands of the Forgotten Realms, just prior to the events that are reflected in the 3rd Edition of that sourcebook. Episode I and II are fully complete, with Episode Three not yet begun. I consider each Episode a book, and each game session a chapter, with Gruenal's Gambit to eventually span three or maybe even four books (or episodes). For those who know and love FR, you may be familiar with the places these modules will take you to: Lake Sembia, Blackfeather Bridge, Hap, Haptooth Hill, Essembra, the Vale of Lost Voices, the Farsea Marsh, Thunder Gap and the Thunderpeak Mountains, Tilverton, and many other areas of Battledale.
I am first and foremost a DM, but I'm always looking for a well designed and implemented campaign. I never played the single player version, so I might not be the most technically proficient player, but I feel like role playing is one of my strong suits. I love DMing and have very much enjoyed it since I discovered NWC. I started playing PnP back in 1984 and have played off and on ever since, in one form or fashion. I have always been the DM in almost every campaign I've played in, save for the rare excursions I've made here on NWC.
My DM style is pretty straight forward, and comes from my writer's background. I was tutored for a year by Simon Hawke, who has written many Star Trek, D&D, and over 60 original works of science fiction and fantasy. This was when I was stationed in Tucson, Arizona, back in 1995. As it's been my lifelong dream to be a professional writer of science-fiction and fantasy, this was an excellent opportunity to hone my craft. I've written many original works before, during, and since that time, but have never gotten around to submitting them for publication. My plan is to wait until I retire from the US Air Force to make a full-time go at writing to pay the grocery bill. =D
Having said that, I strive to tell compelling stories and to allow the player to make a difference in my world. I take great pleasure in slipping in and out of NPCs and seamlessly role-playing them. I feel spontaneity and creativity are two of my strongest abilities, and allow me to help fully immerse the player. I enjoy giving the players the ball, and then standing far out of the way. I believe the DM can (and should) contribute subtly, without being too much of a hindrance, or rules lawyer, or remind the players that they're playing a "game."
