OMG is about all I can say about the DM's in the DMFI training class. Extremely helpful. Great teachers, and they patiently took the time to explain everything when questioned about something. I would recommend everyone wanting to learn to be a DM to join the class. I hope to be able to join games that they host. Great job Skunkeen and Dragonstar

This review is based on information offered, since it was meant for training and not playing.

Skunkeen and Kat were both very knowledgable and informative. One of the key factors for me in this is it was more a shareing of knowledge as peers instead of a "I'm the teacher and you shut up" sort of attitude. Since I have strengths, weaknesses and as with many things have encountered things they or the others attending have not.

I offer my thanks again to both of them in there generous donation of time and effort!!

The DMFI 102 course was an excellent opportunity to learn the tools of the trade. The DM team involved was very helpful and knowledgeable in the DM client and DMFI tools. I definitely look forward to playing games with them in the future if they'd let me.

Not really an adventure but I learned a lot and I will keep coming to these types of events.

This was a great experience, and I think there was much to be gained by a DM of any experience. The DMFI tools were clearly and precisely explained, with excellent examples. I certainly learned a few things to add to my bag of DM tricks! Thanks, Skunkeen!

Awesome game! The DMs did an excellent job with a seemless adventure even though our group split and ran off... I'd love to do this adventure with some different initial choices.

The DM team at Annakolia is superb. While this was a 1-shot that could have gone on for ten sessions, they handled the various plot and player twists with aplomb. I am happy to have had a chance to "tour" part of the world and will definitely be back for more. The DM team is quite possibly one of the best I've seen. After interviewing them and listening to the way they communicate with one another during a game and make custom events for players, I would rate them a solid 10.

[Skunkeen's reply to comment: It was fun to do this adventure for the NWNPodcast as a guest DM at Realms of Annakolia]

  A few points of interest:

1. I'm not sure I like this server's (Aria) custom rest and experience scripting. That affects my take on the game design here. I understand why it's there, but it almost feels like the baby has been thrown out with the bathwater.

2. The game flowed fairly well. However, there were several back-to-back server pauses that were very jarring, especially since my player was positioned awkwardly for about half of them, making it hard to see what was going on.

3. Here is the saving grace that somewhat makes up for the flaws in #1: the DMs do go out of their way to award experience for good roleplaying, staying in character, etc.

4. NPC interaction is definitely there, but I wouldn't mind seeing more personality from a few of the non-player villains. Just a thought.

...

7. Near the end of the adventure, we were one player short of a TPK after an ambush that took most of us before we could even react. And this was AFTER someone scouted ahead for us. Poor tactics? Maybe, but who has time for tactics when he's killed as soon as he enters an area?

All in all, I had a fun time here. Thank you for providing it!

Good plot and character personalities were well expressed. The complete lack of combat hurt it a little, in my opinion, but I'm sure many people like it that way so I cant say anything. It was still fun though.

Awesome game in so many ways. First, I got to see the city of Penrith, which was very neat. Second, I had Skunkeen as a DM, so I knew it would go very well. Third, excellent fellow players. Fourth, an awesome story. The last time I did any quest as fun was back in Baldur's Gate, and this one was better yet. Way to go, Skunkeen!

Simply amazing, unlike any game I've played yet. Despite little combat and a somewhat minor plot, the overall feel of the game was awesome and fun. It was like a mystery to me, a mystery we all had to solve. One obstacle thrown at us really got us thinking.

The game was especially good at emphasizing teamwork. The way we had to work together, to think about what we had to do next, it really added to the game experience.

Overall, the game was a bit short on some things; I normally enjoy a little more fighting, and the plot was small, but the game itself, getting through the actual session, starting with a very mysterious room, leading all the way up to an unbelieveable confrontation with a lizardman, was an excellent experience. It was innovative, and even taught players an important lesson in the end.

Skunkeen is simply one of the best DMs I've worked with yet. I hope to play more of his game!

Good Dming. The gameplay went well. We weren't lost in terms of what to do. And it was pretty much a quick one shot that was finished in the time provided. No rushing required. A simple, but effective adventure.

There was a bit of an issue with PW characters VS newbie characters in terms of combat, but that's pretty normal in terms of a PW event.

the module or admin was late getting the custom stuff in for Skunk and us. insted of quiting or putting the event off Skunk offered to continue on making it a text based adventure. I always heard of these and never played like that before but to my suprise Skunkeen made it easy to learn. he was kind when I made a mistake and he helped me. I never heard or known of a DM like this before

Skunkeen showed his talents by taking a bad situation and turning it into an awesome experience. Due to his preset arrangements not being available, he DM'd a total pen and paper experience for us, with our approval. I have to heartily endorse this type of adventure, it takes some of the variables out of an automatic situation. We were able to express our ideas without fear of combat starting too quickly. It allowed us to role play as much or as little as we wanted and that ultimately allows for a truly fun time. Excellently done.

08/09/07 5 8 9 8 9 9 8 10 8 7
due to some issues with maps most of the event was text based. At first I had my doubts but it turned out very entertaining and really pulled out the RP of the players. Was more fun than I first thought it was going to be. Very nice job of the DM and the players to keep things moving along.

08/09/07 9 9 10 9 10 10 10 10 8 8
Every character's personality was illustrated. Mason was a very impatient drunk-wannabe,also moody!. Cianna was forever offering help and guidance, and Karg and was a man who was looking for fights and action.

Loved the scene where my character was overwhelmed by the Penrith guards.

Awesome event, awesome DM, awesome server!

08/09/07 5 10 10 10 10 10 5 10 8 10
Despite the fact that we had the problem of the new areas not on the module for the event, we decided we would have to do it PnP like, at first i thought perhaps it could get a little boring, though i was 100% wrong ... all throughout this event, i enjoyed it. It was absolutely amazing! RP'ing seemed much easier as players never had the option of running through a transition, missing out on any key RP'ing that was going on. OOC, everyone could see the RP'ing happening and was fantastic! It was a shame it had to come to an end * Smirks *

08/09/07 9 8 10 9 9 8 3 10 7 8
It was run as PnP and was fun! It used NWN engine for fighting so it was simple but still included mainly RP, which allowed for a good session.

I think there were some game issues with NPCs and auto-responses to the deployed monsters - could've been resolved perhaps with more judicious use of the pause key. Some minor derailment of the plot by the characters, but it was all well handled.

What an exciting game design. it put the power of the storyline fully in the hands of the players and adapted the story to their actions. it kept the pace quick and exciting, yet the depth of info was staggering. The game really opened up the depth of the online world of Aria and made me want to play this quest again and again, as you could play a couple times without repeating the same story.

04/27/07 10 10 10 10 10 9 10 10 10 10
This event started off with a strange old man trying to sell an enchanted crystal ball, after purchasing it the story grew wherever the ball went.

I really enjoyed this event, due to the fact the story was totally based on you and your actions, it also worked as a nice tour guide for the land known as Aria.

I would recommend this to any role player weather they are new, or a full on veteran.

a good game. the NPCs were good. just I don't know why the lich would do that. just because he is evil?

DMs don't have to ask players to roll. they can do it themselves. ;)

Really made it interesting...used combinations of npcs, descriptions, scripts and objects to move the tale along...gave positive feedback to you personally as the adventure progressed if you said something witty, did something interesting, or RP'd well... didn't give away/hit you over the head with an answer if you were stuck...A definite DM to play with again!

The party did not complete the mission in this game. This was to some extent because they worked together badly as a team and tended to lose sight of the objective and to some extent because they were unfamiliar with the world. I think 2 hours was too ambitious a time limit for a game that mainly involved a large amount of searching. In an RP environment, things do tend to move slowly. I feel that to succeed in this mission the group would have needed to run around a lot and not do too much roleplaying. The plot has promise and with a bit of tinkering in terms of reduced expectation and increased guidance should make for a good game.

An interesting adventure where the party could have benefitted from some cerebral activity rather than just running around and killing everything. A nice balance of RP and action.

I dont think the Dm should be blamed for the campaign started late because he was preparing for 3 extra players with custom content and at the last they backed out of the event.

Just wanted to note a couple of things: - the whole ghost ship was a no-rest area (at least it never allowed me to rest during the whole time we were on it), that made the adventure much more difficult, as we didn't have a good 'tank'.

- the idea of getting weapons to the deck of the ship is not very realistic, those things are normally bolted down to the deck. Besides, it doesn't add much to the adventure, as those weapons are not really used anyway.

- this is just a rant about the party, has nothing to do with the event and/or DM...our actions were chaotic, nobody wanted/waited for any buffs, chars would charge into the crowd of undead without using any tactics whatsoever, etc. Not much of a teamplay, maybe because we are not used to playing together. Not really sure what to do about it though, just ranting. Oh, here's one thing about DM - I think it would have worked better if those undead would be spawned a bit away instead of right near the party - that sort of looked like an ambush by zombies, and it's tough to believe that slow, stinky, unthinking, absolutely not stealthy zombies could set up any kind of an ambush.

That pretty much sums up the criticism on my part, the rest was really nice :)

[Skunkeen's reply to comment: Player was new to NWN online PW's Vs the single player NWN settings. I make sure all new players understand how to use the DMFI dicebag. usen the ships weapons would of been a d20 vs DC of 10 firing weapons at other ships.I recruit alot of New players and in this was most of theirs first event.all zombies were preset players herded alot back to area transitions.they all lived and learned]

This was a very well designed game, and a lot of fun. The only drawback was three players failing to show up for the event leaving us shorthanded.

Skunkeen started the game off very smoothly with lots of role-play to get everybody in the mood for the voyage ahead.

The storyline was great and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We became a shipwrecked crew, who had very little hope of getting off the small island we was stranded on.

Overall the DM event was well thought out and great fun.

Have to give it 10/10
