Another good session - thanks.
[Carlo One's reply to comment: The level of challenge in "The Hunted" is completely dependent on player actions - i.e. how good (and lucky) the other side is. Otherwise, glad you enjoyed the session. ]

Once again, a fantastic game courtesy of Carlo. Brilliant game-design, well-placed and roleplayed NPCs, plus well-organized and objective DMing. Great stuff, and very much looking forward to the Hunted!

Another page in the lives of four adventurers about to become five, trying to wage change in a world which needs them. The pacing is almost entirely up to the PCs, which feels so much more natural than deus-ex-machina. Time may feel more ephemeral, but since life is made of choices, this brings home the peril of inaction versus hasty action. Is patience a virtue while evil grows or festers? We shall see, I think!

As per usual, a textbook example of story through roleplay using key believable NPCs and situations, revealing nearly nothing until we seek it, and sometimes only cryptically so until we seek it correctly. The clues are there; the plans are in the players' hands. While the world goes on without the players (as it should), the players yet feel as though they leave a definite impact upon the world regardless. This game deserves more players and accolades, and should stand as an example of Online StoryGaming. Few if any DMs I know could pull this off (certainly not myself!), and he's done it reliably for years in our campaign.
Thanks, Carlo.

As always, Carlo leads a player through a maze of plot possibilities, gently nudging where he wants you to go, while at the same time letting the player make a difference. Nice cliffhanger tonight with the Ironhelm dwarf showing up! - Kat

Carlo continues to run a top-notch campaign that I am sure is sometimes difficult to handle with five players with their own agendas. He keeps us working hard but his plans never seem to be so set in stone that when one of us zigs when we should have zagged, Carlo just rolls with it. You're a big part of the reason I keep showing up, Carlo! -KatDragon

It was fun in the... purely speaking, ten minutes, it lasted. Not too bad, but I do hope for better balance to extend playing for all kinds of characters.
[Carlo One's reply to comment: Thanks, it was a shame two PCs ended up getting killed so quickly. It's in the nature of this CvC scenario that such things can happen, however, as choices on both sides can have serious consequences early on.]

Wow, what can I say!? Who would have thought one of the simplest builds I've seen in NWN would turn out to be one of the best games I've played in. It just goes to show you that with a compelling story, entertaining and beleivable NPC's, and a talented DM, you simply dont need anything more than the standard toolset features to have a hell of a game. On top of this, each version of this game is custom tailored to the PC's to bring in personal elements for each player, adding to the emersion of the experience. Definitely a top 5 DM pick, so play with this DM any chance you get~JD

Such a simple mod made into a wonderful session. Without any bells and whistles it takes an outstanding DM to add such life to the plot. All the NPC's were used wonderfully. The swaping between them at times was so fast and seemless I felt there were multiple DM's. The session was ran flawlessly. I would recommend a Carlo One game to anyone.

The realisation has just hit me that this campaign has been running for almost two years, and none of the excitement of the beggining was lost. On the contrary, these sessions get more fun every day as we get even more involved with these characters and really care about what happens to them. Thanks for Carlo for making the Westgate campaign work so well for so long, with increased player interest every session. The realistic approach to time especially works far better than I had originally expected and makes the game much more immersive. And the story gets more attractive as even more of the greater story arc is revealed each session, while each PC and NPC gets closer to each other, each pursuing their personal quests. Here's hoping Westgate will go on for a long time still: who knows, we might even switch to NWN2 eventually. :)

Great session as always Carlo, very well done. A bit of action after a while without that, though I hope nobody else saw what happened with the Masks - that would be a little too much action for us if the Masks heard of it. Anyway this session was great fun and I hope that now that the group has joined the Mercenary Guild we'll have a few of these side missions from time to time. Anyway, I have no complaints really, because the story is getting more and more interesting every session, as the characters grow to themselves and to the city. Thank you Carlo, masterfully DMed!

This sort of game isn't for the wimp roleplayer. It's for the sort of player who feels his/her character, and expresses the character from within as a medium. The entire game feels like this. The environment is solid, the NPCs are realistic, the plot is believable, the story plays well and flows at the PLAYERS' pace. Which means we are forced to find our own clues, and therefore stumble in the dark often enough that we are tempted to hang our beloved dungeonmaster. That sentiment, in itself, gives weight to gaming greatness. When you hate your game because you know you should be figuring something out, but just can't place it, then it's a legend in the making. My only beef is that when we split up, the attention by DM to players by necessity becomes split. A co-DM is sometimes present, thankfully. As veteran gamers in this group, we tend to wander as well as follow the plot. I imagine this is some sort of sick revenge for the devious plots we attempt to untangle.
Fortunately, I'm able to use enough character-interaction drama to draw out some clues. A lot of typing, but it pays off. ;) I'd recommend Carlo to anyone, as long as Carlo still had time enough to game for our Westgate campaign. :)

Been having a blast, Carlo. Every week I look forward to the next Westgate Campaign session. It's only getting better as the party advances both as a group and with their individual agendas. Jokull's first arena battle was loads of fun for me, with many distinct and masterfully played NPCs among the gladiators. Even the snow cat was played perfectly! Great stuff, can't wait to see what happens next.

Exceptional DMing through the campaign. Has had to cope with players dropping out (only two of the original players made it to the end) with little or no complaint, but has always kept the story going. The NPCs have always interacted well with the party, and some of the conversations have been truly remarkable (Samuel's confessions early on, and the conversation with Andruin spring to mind). It has been a privilege to play this campaign.

Well, as this campaign came to its conclusion, I need to thank you once again for this, Carlo. It's been a very good experience, and Id' do it again anytime. I certainly wish I'll have the pleasure to play in a game of yours sometime, and will be looking forward to it. Bruce, You did add to this by your own very intimate knowledge of the NPCs (that's the part that I'm aware of, anyways), and I'll never forget this argument with Andruin. I think I've been lucky to get such a good campaign and so many excellent games. Thanks a lot.

Once again, Carlo, you've shown just how flexible and reactive a DM must be. Talking with Bruce Nielson at the end of the game has also shown us just how much you add to the material you start with, and once again, I must congratulate you, you're doing a perfect DM, and I enjoy every minute of it. This long night waiting for the undead at the gate, really felt cold, damp and long :)

Whoever said Carlo plays female NPCs perfectly was right. The representation with both words and mannerisms is fascinating and I haven't seen it so well played in a while. I feel blessed to be in this campaign. Intriguing plotlines, top notch roleplay and outstanding character development: who could ask for more? Not only I have endless amounts of fun as a player, but the DM side in me also learns a lot each and every session. Carlo and Madre make a marvelous team and I look forward to the continuation. Thanks!

What can I say? I have no doubt many words of praise have been said about this DM, and there is a reason why Carlo still sits on number one in my top5 dms list after having experienced playing with all sorts of talented folk in NWC. Carlo is just that good. Some day I'll get him to reveal what's the secret to being able to do the job of many DMs by himself - and seemlessly at that. The Westgate Campaign, very open-ended from the beggining, is getting better every session, as even more plot possibilities unfold before our characters. I have to admit that sometimes I have a hard time to figure out the evil plots that spring from the mister DM's mind, but I find this 'realistic' feeling has become an important part of this campaign and I'm having a blast. Can't really fault you on anything, Carlo. I just wish these games would last longer!

You havea very good way of propping us into the action / into advancing the plot, that's very well done and doesn't look artificial. I like the way the NPCs remember what we've done, and the way in which the past events come into the present as rumors and distorted facts, all feels very natural. And before I forget, very good piece with the old man at the Tarlinium seat. I hate thinking this series is coming to an end.

SharLet was incredibly frustrating in her obliviousness. And I think all that watching the water was a ploy, she must have made a bee-line to that tavern. =) Anyway, all skeptisism aside, a wonderfully constructed plot. A beautiful city, appropriately decorated. And, as always, a rich world alive in through its rich characters and culture. Well played.

An excellent session. Short and heavy roleplay, which I enjoy. There was ample time to see the different NPCs at work, and they are differnet and enjoyable. I'm still amazed at how many NPC interactions are going on at the same time, whith different players. I alos enjoyed how you got out of the "Hey, that's Shane!" incident :)

As this is my first time playing a dm'd game as a player, you should moderate my comments accordingly. That being said, you have a very smooth style of dm'ing and jumping between NPC's. The overall effect really comes together to make situations lifelike and engaging. I am also amused by the way you take hold of unexpected situations and weaved them into the plot (aka the Uncle in dream). And I am sorry if it seems I'm poking at the seams a bit much; I blame it on the builder in me. Anyway, very well done. I will definitely check out some of your work on the vault as well. -Elurion

Great session, Carlo! The way you jump seemlessly between the NPCs and roleplay them perfectly is amazing. Sometimes I feel like we should go outside the guest house more often, even if only to watch you do your thing. These games are getting better every session. Thanks!

Good job tonight, Carlo! The easy way you slip between NPCs is so fluid, it's hard to believe there is only one of you behind the controls. I had a great time tonight!

As always, a good session. It was a little hard for me in the begining of the module because of the strong interaction with scripted NPCs, and I didn't really know how to play in these conditions (which were new for me), but it eventually got better. Overall, I am still enjoying these modules greatly, and the accompanying NPCs too ;)

Great session ! Your handling of the NPCs involved in the various flirtatious sequences was great. Simon really came into his own in this session and the other half of the equation was the great female NPCs.

The perfect score from me. I can't wait until I try again the Desperate Measures, maybe with a bit of a less desperate character action ;)
This was extremely well led by the DM, an absolute pure roleplay situation that ended up as should have ended.
Congratulations Carlo for having the guts to be that fair, I'm sure you had put a lot of work into this which stayed hidden, thanks to our idiotic behaviour. It was fun, it was fair, it was perfect. I was really growing anxious in that cell.
I hope you're not too upset at the characters for not being better players, I feel bad at having let this happen.

I really liked the concept...that's why I joined up, but the follow through was even better then I expected. I really got the sense of being in a prison full of sadistic guards. The warden was played to perfection. The idea of bringing Jaime Craistlyn in was pure genius. I never thought of it but it was entirely logical. I was comepletely suprised and really enjoyed the roleplay opportunity that presented itself. Bravo...10s everywhere 'cept difficulty ;).
I do regret that we all died so soon. I really feel like alot of it was my fault. Sam was supposed to be the guy that uses charm as a weapon instead of direct violence, and he didn't manage to convince the others not to rely on violence.
In the fight that ensued I should have used all my charm spells instead of attacking physically. I already had one guard charmed. My specialisation is enchantment not brawling after all ;). So I feel a bit like I let the group down, but I really havn't been doing this for long, so I chalk it up to inexperience :)
[Carlo One's reply to comment: I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with Sam, who was the consummate charmingly evil psycopath. The background was very well done, so the idea presented itself easily.
It was a shame that the group decided to attack the six guards - a legitimate decision, but premature and essentially doomed to failure, given the disparity in arms and armor. However, such is life-and death-on death row.]

The good: The module begins in a great setting for deep character exploration.
The bad: The DM killed the entire party before the characters had the chance to develop themselves or before we had a chance to see what character-based content he had added to the module. Simply said the DM put the characters in a situation which was far too difficult to solve. The very strict death rules (death = log out) did not make it easier. I would have liked to see a more flexible DM in this. I feel cheated a bit of a great character exploration as Desperate Meassures really promised to be one.
Maybe the DM should focus it more on the character exploration and less on the need to escape. After having played this module I learned that escaping is not the challege (way too hard anyway) but displaying your character right is the challenge. It is really a shame that this was cut short because the DM saw the need to slaughter the entire party.
[Carlo One's reply to comment: Desperate Measures, as warned on the game page and in the pre-game DM orientation, is played in a realistic setting - a death row prison, with guards who are neither stupid nor easily overpowered by a group of unarmed inmates. The players are not handholded or spoon-fed by the DM, which is the entire point of the scenario - how do PCs react when faced with their imminent deaths, along with prisoners in a similar position? The group chose to first attack a single guard, then attack a well-armed g]

Well you are my first DM, and so far the best ;) I am having more and more fun as things go along. I greatly enjoyed this last session though I had to put lower marks on game design and challenge due to the little glitches that occured with one or two *slightly* overpowered skeletons. Obviously not your fault as a DM, and you dealt with it as best you could.

I don't really feel qualified yet to score you on alot of these things, but would emphasise that I found the repartee between your ghost NPC and Sithel leading us to the cave opening quite good. I also felt you kept your distance and were not to interphering, alowing for the players to make their own mistakes and live with the consequences. A great start for me, I look forward to the continuation.

I enjoy how little by little the plot unfolds, with the group discovering pieces of information each session. Jokull may not always have good ideas, but still he enjoys giving his opinions and loks forward to the day when the Fire Knives are finally uncovered. I hope the arena session will reveal new points or at least give us a few resourceful contacts. Good show as always!

You continue to make every game better than the one before. The plot is developing quite well, filled with mystery and suspense, and though it flows too slowly at times, that does keep it more realistic. Every NPC is unique and very well played (probably the best I've seen around), and you manage to keep all running seemlessly even under pressure when you have to control several characters at once. Good work with the VFX this session too. You're not sitting in the 1st place of my Top DM list for nothing. :)

Again you have made a game that is unique in its kind, I enjoyed this game very much. Sparked by the module idea, I have some ideas/input you might want to take into consideration: * Adding several escape routes, this way somebody who played it before will have a harder time to meta-game. Also having too much exits, of which several can be blocked with (boulder) placeables adds to the dynamics for DMs as well. * Especially in the beginning, I had the idea we, as the Hunters, were just walking around clueless, a bit too long for some perhaps. A NPC, directing us where he saw a hunted, or perhaps easier to spot tracks could add more to the tensions of the hunters as well. I mean, when we got to the shack, and we found the traces of the hunted, the hunt was really on ;) * Allowing trap creation skills or adding more traps with a reasonable price (i.e. the tangle traps were really expensive) * Allow the store to buy stolen goods, since traps can't be sold right now.
Your modules are an asset to the community really, and I hope to see more of your productions soon :) Cheers! - Play Mate
[Carlo One's reply to comment: Very much appreciate the feedback, I'll definitely put a couple of those ideas/points into the final version of the module.
Re: the party, yes, it did wander around clueless for some time in the beginning, largely because it chose not to go to the town. Usually that's the first stop for a party, in this case the decision was made to wander the wilderness for a while beforehand. Not the best strategy, as it turned out. ;)]

This is the first time I had the pleasure of playing under Carlo One, and I hope it's not the last. The module was remarkably unique, and I was a little bit skeptical about PvP amongst such low level characters, but it turned out exceptionally well. The plot is one I haven't ever seen before in an NWN module, and I hope I get the chance to try it again from the other side of the hunt sometime.
I went ahead and gave a 9 in stability because, even though we had the two drops, it wasn't even your server running it. I despise having to rate a DM on something they had nothing to do with.
Overall, a fantastic game that I thoroughly enjoyed. You made me happy to step out of gaming retirement for a bit, and I greatly appreciate that.

Even more desperate than the first one, "The Hunted" is probably the best one-shot I've played since joining NWC. The module sets us on a tense atmosphere, we were required intelligence and cunning to overcome each difference challenge. I have no complaints and I congratulate you for your creativeness in creating this module (and "Desperate Measures" before it) and your great skill in DMing it flawlessly. I'm glad to have been a part of this.

I can put it simply by saying that Carlo One's run of Desperate Measures with this followup with the same characters called the 'Hunted' is together probably by best overall one/two shot experience ever (and will take quite something to top). Carlo is a master sculptor of modules that simply stand out, but not only that but is an extraordinary DM. In the midst of ten players or so, he still managed to possess relavent npcs, make the appropriate checks and assist with out of game engine situations as we wished. I have no idea how he manages to do the work of three DMs in one, but I intend to write a piece of creative fiction on my characters experiences from the start of Desperate Measures to the end of Hunted so I never forget it. Carlo simply has shown why Neverwinter Nights truly is unrivalled in some of the experiences it can give and I salute him for showing its full potential by his creative abilities and masterful DMing. Thank you!
[Carlo One's reply to comment: Put simply, the above is why I DM.]

Entertaining game, though I imagine moreso for the Hunted than the Hunters. Did well keeping up with two different groups, though a second DM would help a lot. Great original game concept.

Carlo's handling of the party deaths and subsequent intervention on behalf of party members was masterful and a joy to watch. It makes me wish that I could actually have seen the discussions on the fugue plane.
The appearance of the NPCs were timely but not too timely.
Carlo always lets a player pay the price for stupid moves, but he gives opportunity for redemption and is flexible and willing to work with a player.

This campaign gets more immersive every session. The NPCs are extremely well played, and little by little more details of the plot are discovered. Carlo does have a way to make us curious as to what will be the results of our actions. I look forward to every game. Good show! - FP

Wow, what a difficult game for a palidan! I figured it would be that way, but I hadn't anticipated all the problems I would face with the other players. I think I might have been able to get out if I had grabbed the halfing while greeseing him up rather than waiting until he was at the door with the others... d'oh! If only I had thought of that sooner. Ah well, it will be interesting to play the sequal from the point of Regal.. now that he has to contend with his mistake.
Only criticisim I can think of is that it was way too quite. Maybe this was for effect, but it seems there should at least be some ambiant sounds.. dripping maybe, or far off yells/screams from other prisoners every once in a while. Unforutnatly, I can't comment on the rest of the mod for as you know I was killed ;)
Excellent game. Looking forward to the sequal.

Very, very fun game, Carlo. You definately deserve all the praise you get for this mod - great concept, and everything ran smoothly even though you were the only DM. I'm looking forward to the sequel, I have no doubt it will be at least as good as the first one. - FP

I enjoyed this session thoroughly, even though this one wasn't combative or NPC-intensive. The gathering of all companions and relating information was in itself a well-done game, and leaves me hungry for the next session to come.

Carlo consistently runs an entertaining, smoothly-paced scenario. His NPCs are believable. He allows the players to do their own thing, at their own paces, but keeps the game moving along as necessary..

Let's go by parts: Game Design: Most of the areas are designed pretty well, but few have anything too remarkable about them. I believe the adoption of CEP might change this. I'm still a big fan of music, but your explanation for not adding it is quite reasonable. Organization: You always keep us well informed in the campaign forum, and the games run very smoothly. Sometimes we have to be a little patient with the NPCs, since there are no co-DMs and the party splits up at times, but you have never missed anything we said. Objectivity: Everyone is treated extremely fairly. All the PCs have equal opportunities to affect the plot through their actions and their bios. NPCs: I am highly impressed. Your NPCs are very remarkable, each with interesting and unique personalities. Fun: I look forward to this game every week. Keep up the good work! Treasure: Sometimes I feel the rewards the Baron Pahar proposes to us are a little low. Challenge: Combat has been quite easy so far (doesn't matter, the focus is RP). There is also challenge in the decisions we have to make, trying to antecipate the outcome. Stability: No problems what-so-ever. Plot: The plot's still a little slow at the moment (though there have already been hints of what's to come), but the campaign is just starting. The open-ended factor is great. Overall, a great campaign. See you on Sunday!

I had a great fun, Carlo. I was looking forward to play in another one of your modules ever since Desperate Measures, and I'm glad to be part of this campaign. Though this session are pretty quiet, it was good RP. Even DMing alone, you controlled the NPCs flawlessly, and was very attentive to every word we said. Looking forward to what will happen in the future. - FP

The mindset of this game alone made it completely unique, very diffrent from the usual party-based exploration. While there were alot of technical problems and the game started very late, in the end I'd say it was worth it. Major bump was, for me, the combination of the very high challenge and the fact thaat dead people don't have much to do.

The game was fun and I enjoyed the challenge. For a single DM you coped well with 5 players. Even though we were late to start the game was worth playing late into the night. I liked how you roleplayed the NPCs and was glad that you were strict and reacted logically to player actions even if they were stupid and suicidal. I hope we play together again.

Carlo I quiet simply loved this game, loved it. I can see where how well this comes off certainly depends on the ability of the players playing it to rp. And yes definitely want to run this with some hand picked groups of three actually. Hopefully I did not miss much, I had another game starting a half hour from the time I died and so thought it a good time to leave. I have one major suggestion though. There are no heal potions in the game. At least when a PC rests off set the dice roll and heal them. My PC was injured, rested and cause of that woke up still injured. For what ever reason the fighter was never once healed. So then I was stuck having to take a chance on the next encounter. Unfortunately the other two were stunned have no armour and so as fighter stepped between the two to argo an enemy and died before they recover. LOL and in trying to back away my PC backed into the wall with no place to flee once badly wounded. I had sense enough to rest, at least restore health that way. Because depending on another to heal or use their stuff well---is maybe some can maybe some have not a good idea on that and maybe some are gonna be put out of action. If a PC has enough sense to try to rest and heal then heal them if there is no alternative to that. And that is my only complaint in what was a splendid game. I had two superb fellow players and you youself are without a doubt one of the finest rp'ers and mod makers there is. It will be a long time if ever before I forget this game. LRP

Loved the game and the concept. Getting out of the cell was quite tough but of course it should be. The only complaint is that once one did escape and kill the head gaurd there was no key on his person to let the others out of their cell

Carlo has developed a unique and interesting storyline in Desparate Measures: Five convicts on death row scheduled for execution in 3 days. Our goal was to survive. For a number of reasons, all of our characters died and nobody survived. Carlo designed a good prison-oriented game environment. Due to the nature of the game, we had minimal interaction with NPCs but when we did, they played their part well. We enjoyed the game so much, we're all playing it again next week with hopes of a better outcome.

Desperate Measures was the best and most intense NWN roleplaying experience I have ever experienced. Carlo One set up a unique scenario in which PCs dealt with love, despair, hope, moral dilemmas, PC relationships, and a high level of game challenge that accorded perfectly with the story. A brilliant one shot game, with vivid, wonderfully played NPCs, great customization around the PCs bios, and high drama.

The Hunted was an excellent game of cops and robbers. 1 man running for his life and the others hunting him. As the hunted I didn't interact much with the world trying to avoid capture but the mood was definitely intense running by yourself trying worrying what's going to be around the next corner. I would have liked to have had a couple extra obstacles(avoid a patrol) or perhaps been started closer to the hunters to add to the tension. Overall a great game and highly recommended--Dio

Very, very nice, Carlo. Excellent concept, having a group hunt a single player. The NPCs were a little flat, but they weren't a major part of the plot, either. But, not knowing where to look for a criminal who could very well already have his eyes set on you...that's a key. If you ever want to run this again, I'll take either role, or even co-DM it. After all, it seems customizable enough so that you can start the Hunted & Hunters in different areas each time... --Rofelli--

One of the funnest games yet. This DM was able to create a very simple yet highly entertaining module which involes you being on death row and trying to escape. He actually took my character's bio and added custom things to the module which I have never seen yet. If you ever see the module desperate measures here on NWC, JOIN IT! You won't reget it.

Low rating for fun: players dying miss a big part of the mod as they can't continue and have to log. The was also no chance to become part of the mod as NPCs or something silimiar. This was quite frustrating and ruined my evening a bit. But the mod is good nonetheless.

Since we were playing a heavily scripted module Rofelli GMed with a very light touch and did so excellently, adding atmospheric encounters and possessing NPCs for extra interaction. I was particularly impressed with his spawning and control of orcs in tricky places as we were trying to get a hostage to safety, which made the escape very tense and great fun!

The Road to Meander was very well designed. Plus, the DM needed to deal with the fact that no fighters showed up for the module. He dealt with the unusual situation very well.
