I've been meaning to say this for a while: This is THE BEST-DESIGNED MOD I've ever played. The custom content is gorgeous, from the gentle hills (why couldn't Bioware have done that? I've always thought the cliff-and-ramp system a little silly) to the truly impressive castle walls. It truly is worth every minute of the huge hak download.

NPCs score only 7 because they all seem pretty similar to each other. I don't have a sense of their personalities. Unique quirks in behavior or speech would remedy that alot, I think.

The game was smooth and seamless, battle was balanced and fun. When help was needed or problems arose the DM was perfect in his response.

Excelent session. I have to say, it was one of the best I've ever had. NPCs were excelent, and having the character development made for a HIGH immersion factor. Can't wait for more! (Could have played all night!)

GAME DESIGN = 11.5!! This is the best designed mod I have ever seen, hands down. Burne's tower was truly impressive (guards on the walls!), the rolling hills are much better than Bioware defaults, and the tunnels were very cool, too (although a little hard to manuever in, especially because the camera gets all wacky and I can't see my char sometimes). I can tell a lot of work went into this mod, -- it really shows.

DM team worked seamlessly together. Nice job, guys!

Great game. World is full and lifelike. Didn't explore much as this was the first game of a long campaign and mainly PC meet and greet. World looks great so far and had an intriguing beginning

Well, a great game as always. I loved the little random conversations that NPCs would have around us - it really made the world come alive.

for all your marvelous help.. in helping to play and extremely complex..and difficult pc.. my profound thanks.. your feed back and suggestions have been invaluable to me... you two were great dm's to have as I seek to play characters that are a radical departure from previous ones...and a radical departure from me rl.. though I use my rl knowledge as a therapist.. to keep christa behaving true.. to her illness.. and tis a reason you are on my top five dm list.. you've been very wonderful for me as a player.. .*grins* glad I got in a game with ya..LRP

I do enjoy your work guys, especially with what you've done with the engine (scripts, resting areas etc) - the build itself is nice. The NPCs are distinctive and seem believable but my big problem is with the ones that are left idle. I would suggest as the main DM uses the plot NPC to advance things, the other one possesses various other NPCs to make it more immersive (for example in the beggar refuge only two beggars were alive, the others were idle - not believable if a group of outsiders were to barge in). My biggest (and only) booboo (cute way of saying problem) is the plot - everything seems a bit too chaotic for my personal taste, and the group doesn't help to make sense of things much. I mean we are looking for a fallen paladin, we end up in a rogue hideout, we speak to beggars about a drow and all this time the big quest is also a blur. I do appreciate the realism of such encounters in the sewers but given the way we are struggling to get a clear plot going, they are more like distractions. Also, a few potions hidden in some crates or on some npc's would be welcome since we are low levels and every encounter is at least of medium difficulty. Otherwise, I do like it and I look forward to the next session :) (Maybe the party-leader-activated-rest isn't really a good idea though? I personally suggest the safe areas stay in, but given our party, I think Chrisa should be allowed to rest even if the others aren't around) ... Anya.

Well, we finally had a session with everyone there, no quiver bug, and no PC deaths. If this sounds overly negative it shouldn't do, as the game has been fun throughout. This session was one of the best so far, with a dungeon crawl through the sewers, intraparty tension etc.

This is an interesting little side plot. I'll be curious to see how you tie it back to the main story line. All in all a great game.

I like..the challenge of thinking differently...the game wakes me up that way.. and I'm having fun and learning a lot...that's what makes for a great game :)

This is an intensely interesting game to me..and am so glad I got a spot in it.. it's not easy..not by a long shot.. only three of us walked out of that cave..and only two made it to town..death is real.. and life brutal..however I did notice.. if you play smart.. like letting the enemy kill each other off first...and if you wait for them to come to you..it is survivable...also there was great rp on dm side.. the elven ranger was soo well done.. and provided a great opportunity for the bitter and jaded Christa..who was really angry at loosing folk she cared about..but she'd never own that one..not yet...to express that side of her.. thank you :)

Great game, despite the fact that all but one character died (permanently or to be raised later). It made for good roleplay, though. From now on all wands of fireball will be left alone.

This one..is going to be fun...I am soo sorry I was part of the cause for the late start..with problems putting in the haks... in additon...I have to leave the house when realtors come to show it..and alas...though due at three pm my time, when the game was over, they came early and did not even have time to let you all know I had to leave...I just had to jump up and go...it's a good group you all have and I am soo looking forward to playing the angry young fighter/cleric... in the campaign LRP

I was excited to see the unique start of the game. 'Twas -just- the type of beginning to get one into the frame of mind needed to rp well. I liked it a lot.

The rough beginning was unfortunate as it shortened the game so much, but I have high hopes for next week.

Your npcs are, as always, great fun and round out the world in unique and interesting ways making the game much more 3 dimensional. Very good!

I'm very much looking forward to how this new campaign unfolds!

I had a blast... players RPd without overdueinfluence... your use on beetle encounters was balanced and exciting... not too difficult fo our lvls but really entertaining. I thought the XP doled was great and the Myconid attack was perfect... I hope RC doesn't quit over it... I never did when players dissagreed over my dwarf... LOL Well your game is great...

Well Ark, thought you deserved to get this reveiw because to be honest, even though it was just you DMing, its still felt like there were all three DMs there. That, to me is testament to how well you handle the DM Client! Top notch man!

Truelly pleased with the change in events... not that my critiques aren't noticed but that they can actually change yer numbers... ***laughs evilly*** actually the game was great. Good combat, fair dialogue and I got an amazing sword. You'll see. Things are meshing well and it's about time. Not excluding myself from my belief that we were a very difficult group to manage.. you DMs have manipulated us well into a good collective. The group is meshing and we are becoming a team... no small achievement from your direction. Your story... your manipulation... your skill has created my favorite night and my favorite game. Thank you.

Same old same. In this case, the phrase means some damn good gaming. This campaign remains one of the definite highlights of the week. It was annoying how Ostler refused to go into detail about the private rooms as I would have wanted to figure out what they are for, perhaps another time then.

Fantastic as always! Your design work and NPCs are marvelous. Teamwork between the DMs was great and play flowed extremely smoothly. Now if we could just make these sessions longer... :)

For the first time in my NWN and video gaming career, this is perhaps one of biggest online dissapointments i have ever played in.

Upon entering on time we did our standard warmup area talk in the inn. Minimal dm intervention happened and it was basically as usual a nice time for gamers to integrate. Due to my real life comittments, too many to list here (those amongst you all who know me know what i do and understand well) i was away from gloomviel for a while and had hoped to reenter. Sadly a total system crash that required a backup disk reboot caused me to be delayed and relog about 20 minutes later.

When i reentered the gameworld i reemerged and sticking with Walsh's policy of no requesting assistance, found at gloomviel.com i waited in the inn doing solo roleplay. after 10 minutes of 'solo' roleplay with an NPC bartender trying to get information on 'where the group went' i opted to try exploring the hold for clues

more roleplay. During this time not one gamer replied to my request for OOC assistance, nor did EITHER of the 2 dm's on duty make any attempt to bring me into the game. Selfish? well, i do admin and i have done gaming admin for groups including gamespy approved servers for a bit now, and as an admin in a group of 6 players with 2 full time dm's and not one can offer any assitance in 38 minutes (when the session is only roughly 2 hours long) is subpar at best.

There was some bad lag but that was expected. In review of his personal hak pack there is some nice touches. Finally seeing the pictures of pug and that group was a nice touch. The book system i noted has a small bug but i will nwc message you about that. The fog is also a nice small touch, adding new feel to the gameworld.

It would appear im not the only one who feels this way as enrollment has been down. Perhaps this was an isolated incident or there was something going on behind the scenes that i was unaware of and am still uninformed about.

But i will say that from my opinion Gloomviel has changed, and perhaps what i liked is nolonger there. I love the world and the backstory, john is my favorite character of everything i play both in tabletop and in nwn but stuff like this is not acceptable.

if you wish to talk about this mr. walsh you have my e-mail addy (s) as well as my nwc account. i await explanation and rebuttle for this tragic blemish to gloomviel.

Hal

Wow. Really great work with the lead in, then a nice smack-it-out-of-the-park scene with the big bad! The circling zombies were brilliant, and the way he killed them, (and Janice's sense of him drawing their power,) was just... Wow.

Great session - thanks for putting up with my little hijinks. I always kind of had the notion that this kind of thing is more along the lines of what you had in mind. I thought Max and Nona played off it particularly well. It was really, really joyful to watch.

05/17/03 8 9 8 8 9 7 7 8 8 9
All above average, though to me the treasure is more than we deserve and the challenge is less than we could use. For example: If the part of the group that is in the lead sees enemies, they rush forward to engage; this leaves those in the back to either rush ahead as well (not knowing to what they rush toward) or to not help at all...i.e., not much strategy involved. I had thought it would be more tense planning after the last week when most were killed, but the tactics have not changed. This is perhaps not the fault of the dm or the mod, however, a tougher challenge may force the group into more thoughtful tactics. Overall, I really enjoying the complex scheme of things here, though I do not know all the ins and outs as yet.

Great work, and with two of you on board there is always a surprise, such as Prita's comments and help when Glad was busy turning in the pallid leaves. Great to have one say playing the fellow we drug in while another could play Prita when Glad went to get help, and ye are both good dm's. Tony will be messaging ye on some "player particpation" plot strategies that have worked for me as a dm this week and promise to hop on something for Glad, though she's so fog addled that one is hard for me to come up with as see her very much drifting along with the others who have it together enough LOL to actually do something. She's very much adrift now, like the fog, and that one is gonna take some thinking on *grins*. Good game fellows! LRP

05/12/03 9 10 10 10 10 9 9 9 9 10
I could never have imagined that a one-shot game could be this much fun. The atmosphere was sort of tragi-comical; PCs were quite humorous while the setting itself was tragic. The end boss was well planned in the way that his special ability (you know which one) destroyed us...too bad our cleric didn't have Protection from Evil to cast on us. Despite the anti-climax in the end, it was a very good game.

05/12/03 10 9 10 10 10 10 10 10 9 10
The roleplaying of the NPC's TOTALLY ROCKED!!! Even though very little DM plots were needed this time, we have a fair amount of evidence to examine.

This game was excellent. Ark, was impressive to say the least. Made the NPC's come to life with the way he jumped between all of them at any given time. Kept the game flowing just like it should have, with no problems! Two thumbs up!

I can't tell you how much fun it is to have two splendid dm's to run the show. I know through your NPC's what great rp'ers yourselves are in fact. The three legged rat, the red eyed fighter, are but the many ways you move the plot along. Bet one of the best measures of the dm is in how they help the PC's rp themselves, and want to thank you for your wonderful help in helping me bring Glad back in. Was realistically done without having to use up a chunk of playing time doing it, and that takes skill. Thanks so much guys. *frowns* my isp has gotten really erratic here in the evenings, starting around 3 to 5 pm my time, and was acting true to form last night. Ermm subscribing to dial up service seems a bit of overkill but it was times like last night I really consider doing so So sorry about that and did try to leave a message with you and on the boards, see you next week.   LOL all game consisted of the rain falling on my cold dead face, *sighs* ohh well better luck next week, eh? Was not the fault of the dm's, rather the shortcomings of my group ( my feelings mind ermm but have different priority theirs LOL and am sure they thought their no doubt they thought their quest the more important thing). Tis not easy to play a game as good as yours dead rather than hit respawn *grins* but managed to sit on my hands and not PUNCH that button. Take care see you both next week, dead or alive LRP

First off, let me say I love Gloomveil. The addition of custom music and artwork makes it all a truly unique experience. Only a couple of qualms... I think some effort should be made to help newer players get up to speed on what is happening in the latest session, whether it be a DM controled PC/bard/something who is talking about whats going on in a welcoming manner that the new players will feel they should/can get involved... or maybe as simple as a little newsletter players can buy, or a bulletin or something... I just felt so confused trying to sift through the players duscussions.... Also, I dont know if it was just me, but it seemed like the DMs just werent there? I can count maybe 3 times I had a DM encounter... maybe we are supposed to contact the DMs in chat? I dont know... guess its all part of becoming a part of Gloomveil... learning its wild ways. ;)

Among all the great sessions of Gloomveil, this was one of the better ones of recent history. I think that the smaller groups contributed to that fact, effectively making the group that I was in more cohesive, leading to better character interaction, and better DM interaction as well. The handling of the hermit was perfect form, some great lines of wisdom/insanity. And of course, the spreading of some dissent among the players. Might there be some rival factions growing amongst the PCs?

The one thing that has to be pointed out though, is that I think that a session like tonight's really really *really* begins to suffer under the 2-hour time contraints. Basically, we take about 15 minutes just getting everyone online and at the inn, another 20 minutes with idle/philosophical/character/etc. talk, another 15-20 minutes getting basic organization if we're going questiing, and then we've gotta consider getting back to the inn 15 minutes before closing time in order to wrap up. That leaves a little less than an hour of adventuring time, which makes it impossible not to feel rushed. I know that GV is monster work for you to maintain, and we're tremendously grateful to you for it, but with 3 DM's total at this point, do you think it might be possible to bump it back to at least 3 hours per session? It would be much appreciated.

Whatever the decision, thanks for all the work in creating the world, and keeping it going.

We tried following the leads, but there wasn't enough to go on tonight. We went up the Giant Staircase to Fog's Edge (the starting point) and apparently so did the other group. I feel like no goals were accomplished. We effectively went around in circles. I was disappointed, VERY RARE for Gloomveil. It's usually very well organized in plot.

I had a lot of fun... we had great RPing moments, good battles and the loot flowed.. very balanced... if only we did not get that wierd instability. It takes so much to come back from that moment. So bizarre... but it was a fair resolution, a great game anyhow ands I thank you for your time. Rutledge

Great game, things moved quickly... combat was heavy and we seemed to get surprised often (which is good). I turned down a date to play this evening and once again you didn't disappoint. This is one my favorite campaigns... great game.

Fluent action is a well-designed environment. A couple of NPCs to look up to and to look down on. This session wasn't particularily plot-intensive, but I think I see some things coming together slowly but surely. Fun-wise, best in a while. No complaints, none. Very good game.

This game was mostly hack 'n slash with a bit of roleplaying and a few NPC conversations. Valuable experience gathered and some interesting items found. Jaroo is a funny old druid...ooops, I wasn't supposed to call him old. Overall, nothing spectacular this time, but the way is now paved for further exploring, adventure and plot development.

04/07/03 9 10 10 9 10 9 10 10 10 10
Balanced... very balanced. We developed in RP, found our group formation and were challenged appropriately. The game was great.

04/02/03 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10 10
Humm just wondering Tony if you write plot up in advance or fly by your pants sort of thing or a mix? However you do it tis unique, origonal and far from what is ordinarily to be found in games. I really love all the twists and turns. When you couple that with outstanding npc rp by you and argankyl tis outstanding and am easily make me top five list and I play with loads of dm's , loads of games :) LRP

Great game. Magic items were definately more available this game, although considering the foes we faced, an increase in them was probably necessary for our survival. Fantastic design, as always.

I actually enjoyed this game a lot. The team work was greatly improved, the combat was fluid and fast and I liked the roleplaying pace. It was also one of the most difficult games that we've played yet. I appreciated the intensity increase... we fought creatures equal to our skill, even those rabid dogs are tough. Overall the game was well thought out. My only complaint was the wierd body switching bug (I was Kestra, a rat, a troll, Marcus and a couple others) during that combat scene. Not sure what caused it... but I was slammed. Note the

last end of run for this mod and it was fantastic. the sheer panic of being solo and up front with Vent all by myself was one of the most realistic and unnnerving and sweated buckets. Who knew in the end that "well I love him" would bring Cullyn back, tis the last thing she ever wanted to admit to anyone let alone vent, then the mark to the forehead and leaving the end of game with cullyn and I sitting there , magnificent and just the most amazing end of game I have ever , ever done LRP

I enjoyed this session quite a bit. I will say that I thought it a bit unfair that the two new characters were brought to the level they were, considering the number of sessions and all the work it took to get the existing characters to that point. I'm glad to hear Promethian unexpectedly benefitted from this, though, as he deserved a little good luck. I hope the new characters didn't receive too much gold to start, as that is something that has been scarce for the group in the beginning, as it should be. Well done as always, guys.

Well, this was fun. I did enjoy myself. A bit chaotic at times, but me thinks it's due to the group being a bit unorganized and disoriented. I don't blame the DM's, you both did a bang up job. Here's to good times.

Cheers

This game has really taken off. I'm starting to get a feel for the world--it's starting to get some real historicity. Great work, guys! The "bug fix" was no big deal at all, especially because after so many seamless sessions a little leniency is due. :) Comments: Lag can get rough. XP for monsters seems a little low. (those ogres were rough! only 20xp; and those beetles could get 3/4 of our party dazed, only 7xp). Maze was a lot of fun!

Another masterful evening. Some minor technical glitches, but in a 4-hour session, who doesn't need a 15-min break? Having missed the last session, I was nervous about getting back up to speed, but it was much easier than anticipated. Good session that had a nice combination of role-play and action to keep things rolling. Excellent role-playing of NPCs this week, I thought even a notch above normal. Like the new emote wands, but I miss the "work middle, work low" option.

My second TC with Ark, and it was not *any* easier this time around! I was perched on the edge of my seat, tense & breathless, the whole game. Difficult battles (both with monsters and opposing team's players ^_-). Tokens were well hidden. There was no way to go for an easy win here. Great treasure... if you could hold on to it long enough! Ark kept both teams moving along in what turned out to be a close and ruthless fight for the win!

02/27/03 10 9 10 9 10 10 10 9 10 10
What a blood bath! Fire, glory, blood, and brimstone...all in no short supply. I had to give a 9 on stability, because even though things were whacked at the beginning, once they cleared up, it was very smooth. The NPC mark mainly reflects the monsters (go Ninja Kobolds!) as opposed to regular people. I can't wait to do this again....it was a close call right down to the wire. Very tense...very INtense. Great game Ark! Loved the commentary, and thanks for keeping the shopkeepers from killing me. ;) Run this again soon! I could get used to this. :)

I have been really busy the last couple of weeks and have let reviews slip. I appologize for this. I can't say enough how much my 2 hours in Gloomveil means to me each week. Keep up the awsome story telling, and thanks as always for the time and effort of all the DMs involved. Grog.

This was a tough one to rate, since by all accounts it was a tough session, and I got bounced in the middle of it. I do feel that it's within your capabilities to help nudge the game along a bit (without unduly influencing things), when you start to see boredom or frustration set in. Overall though, you guys are doing a superior job with a huge group of trying adventurers. (^_-) Thumbs up!

02/22/03 9 9 9 10 9 9 10 10 9 9
Well, this session has been extensively discussed in messages exchanged between the players and DM's post-session, so there's little to be said that hasn't already been said. The only thing that I, personally, would emphasize, is that, as a DM, if you observe Player A engaging in conduct X which is something you want to stop, address it by telling player A to stop conduct X, not by sending out a shout to all players to stop conduct Y. In other words, if the problem is one, two, three, or however many players sending you tells that are overbearing and distracting, responding to that with a shout that all the players should stick closer together addresses neither the player, nor the conduct, in question. That speaks to any issue where you find the conduct of one or more specific players contrary to what you want to see in your campaign. Aside from that, the campaign remains great, don't internalize any of the frustration caused by any of the group's tactics, because both of you are among the best DM's out there, hands down, and I'm always looking forward to me. PS: Albino spiders are EEEEEEEEVIL!!!

02/18/03 9 9 10 9 8 10 7 8 10 10
This week's GV seemed particularly story driven, and was nicely self-contained. I'm a little concerned that the players aren't throwing you enough different looks -- nowt that many of the characters are so well established, it's becoming easier to anticipate the plot lines. It would be interesting to see what would happen if some aspect of the future plots forced some different characters into a leadership role.

02/18/03 9 9 9 9 9 8 8 10 9 9
OK - so that was not our finest hour, but we still played our PCs very well. We knew we'd get angry and sometimes not even get along. We will find a way to work through it, one way or another.

I would like to see games begin on time or 5 minutes after schedule. Every week it is at least 20 minutes after scheduled start that we begin and we don't seem to ever get as far as everyone would hope, partly as a result of late start. As a suggetion perhaps latecomers could wait until there is a standard, appraopriate reason for dropping them in later. Or just port them to where the party is minus "x" amount of hit points, roleplaying that the lateness and injury combined to simply cause them to "lag behind" the rest of the party.

02/09/03 9 9 10 9 9 9 10 10 9 9
Another seriously enjoyable week. It's always so hard to rate DMs because from week to week in a campaign you might not see a ton of combat, or a ton of loot, or meet NPCs, or learn too much about the plot. But, things are moving along nicely and I'm having a blast! My only minor gripe is selfish - the 4-hour sessions are just a touch too long for me. I get the impression that the level of play drops noticeably in the last hour and many players start to get into that "let's hurry up and finish this quest" mode. But, that could just be me getting tired and crabby! (^_-)

02/03/03 8 9 10 9 10 10 10 10 9 9
Well done. Dm's are very patient with the characters. They don't start throwing things in to push the game along. They leave time for the PC to interact with each other about things other than the main storyline.
