Game was interesting and fun with great opportunity to RP and a bit of combat to add excitement. The Planescape setting is very different from other settings and takes some getting used to. It's kinda like Road Warrior with magic. I felt that the DMs did an excellent job with keeping things moving and were very objective in thier playing of NPCs and skill checks. I would say that one of the encounters (you know which one) was probably a bit tough as we only survived by some DM interventino and the help of an NPC. That may have been calculated... may not have been... not sure. My only real complaint was not being given enough background. I do know know Planescape, so I did not RP in a "proper" way within the confines of the the setting, and therefrore was singled about a bit by the other party members. If I had understood the setting a bit more, I probably would have RPed a bit differently. I would suggest that a campaign setting guide be posted on the game page. Something more that what was offered for this session. Good job all around; however, and I am glad to have finally gotten the opportunity to play in an Arawen game.

Arawen and Valas did a fabulous job. Even though they ran the game on the fly, play was smooth and the feel immersive. Very fun!

Now here was a game that flowed so well together that it felt entirely organic. The stumbling upon the villain and the revelation felt completely and innocently accidental, because the player characters wanted to talk to the NPC in question anyway.

Maybe it was because the module was brilliantly set up to where All Roads Lead to Rome, so to speak as far as the plot was concerned, or maybe it was because the combination of coincidental Player Character intent and subtle DM guiding made everything move like clockwork, but this game have the best flow I have ever seen in an NWN game.

Whether you are planning to continue this in campaign form, or will just be hosting completely different modules, here's looking at you, Arawen and Valas.

Being able to play in the Planescape setting is simply awesome, in the true meaning of the word. The feeling of Sigil (at least as I remember it from PS:T) was captured very well, and certain areas such as the Mortuary were oustanding reflections of that. Area design was simple but effective, with a special feeling generated by both the atmosphere and the large variety of well-played NPCs. As this was the first running of the module, a few very minor points were overlooked in the heat of things, but it didn't affect the overall experience. One suggestion for the next running would be to find a way to integrate more of the end-plot along the way; a lot of information was thrown at the PCs at the end. My not-too-bright PC (in-character) didn't particularly care, but a more intellectual PC might have felt more frustrated trying to understand what was going on. In summary, a unique and outstanding game, which was thoroughly enjoyed. --Carlo

This session, the first in Realon, was particularly enjoyable for Jonas. The DMs did an excellent job of playing to Jonas' background as a former student at the Great Academy, skillfully using in-game and out-of-game touches (NPCs who knew Jonas, revealing the map). The few minor glitches - factions seem to be a recurring problem - were handled quickly and deftly, while the story continues to move along strongly. Also appreciated the more intimate feel given to the session, appropriate for a reduced party. --Carlo

Arawen and Starstuff showed both a mastery of the DM interface and their well-known creative talents in this session of Castellar, the final one in the Underdark. Even though the session was heavy on combat, the presence of the rather unique NPCs accompanying the party and the need for making decisions made it a strong roleplay experience as well. It is not easy to pull off the kind of scenario they did and have everyone enjoy it, so congratulations are deserved. The combat challenge level was a bit nerfed, but that's a DM prerogative. Excellent job all around. --Carlo

I don't think it will ever be possible for me to express how much joy Arawen has given me through her games - this last session provided me with one of my most memorable NWN moments. Why? Simply because not only does she have such a wonderful eye for detail and art in her building but her npc possession is one of a kind and I have not seen many other DMs that can dm like she can alone. The story, the roleplaying, her interaction with the players and how she fosters their own stories and their characters.... it really is endless. Thank goodness for Arawen and Castellar, there is nothing like this and you can imagine how blessed I feel for being a part of her campaign. If you are reading this and want to experience NWN Dm gaming at its 'pinnacle', get yourself on the waiting list. Could be a long wait though.. I don't think anyone is going to relinquish their spots for some time :) -Top 5 DM... as always.

Very fun game as always. And that's exactly why I love being in this campaign - it's fun! Slowly but surely the plot advances, and I can't wait to find out what will be the next wall in the group's path. I'm glad we could finally continue Castellar!

Alot of people couldn't show up to this game, so it was just me and a new player. We ended up going on some sidequest, and did a little "sleuthing", uncovered some new clues, etc.. I was really impressed with how Arawen was able to come up with all this stuff on such short notice. Instead of just being a cancelled game, it was a fun change of pace.

I didn't really know how to review, since this was my first game. Also, the DM was stuck with only two of us attending and thus improv'd a sidequest, which was done really well. A really great, understanding, non-stressful first experience.

Castellar keeps getting better and better each and every session. The game never gets boring: there's always something new, something interesting, and Arawen keeps presenting us with great design. If I wasn't part of this campaign, I'd be more than happy to simply sit around and watch what happens for a session or two. Nuff said. Thanks, Arawen and Lastone!

I have absolutely no complaints about this campaign. I'm enjoying every session throughly since I joined you and from talking to Silv I wish I could have joined Castellar Chronicles sooner. Every level is designed with remarkable attention to detail and along with perfectly chosen music the atmosphere and mood is right on! On top of it, each NPC and situation thrown at us is roleplayed grandly by Arawen and Lastone, a range of emotions we have to deal with every time. This session in particularly, the death of the kender slave clearly affected King Tristo deeply, and also Zaka more than it would seem. I'm really looking forward to the next session because every moment of this has been memorable. Thank you, Arawen, for allowing me to join this campaign.

Arawen and Lastone - I don't know what I'd do if I didnt have this campaign to be honest. Castellar Chronicles is the pinnacle of NWN gaming design - the story is epic, the levels are designed so perfectly.. it is so hard to fault anything in this game. I count myself blessed to be in this campaign and I look forward to each and every game for another whirlwind of emotion and experience. Thank you!

Great story, quite different from the usual D&D fare. Good job on the DM work, especially given the wide variety of the players' approaches to their character in game. Would play with Arawen and Dezran again.

Simply amazing work Arawen, especially the fact that you were soloing it as a DM for the majority of the time. I plan to play with you again in the near future! Maybe next time I won't play such a jerk. :-)

Absolutely fantastic DM'ing job. You should give yourselves a pat on the back! Well done!

Truly excellent job at pacing the module to keep the plot moving at a good pace. Never a dull moment, but never seemed rushed. Great plot and cliffhanger ending. I am looking foward to the next installment.

A fantastic game through and through as Arawen and Dezran did great job completing this first chapter. The drawback was the time it took to finish but sometimes RL can get in the way but I'm very glad I stuck with it. The finish was poignant and touching as well as exciting to boot. In the end, all I can say is I am definitely looking forward to Chapter 2 -Tarridus

The Planewalkers: Dreamland module ended on a high note, with the party experiencing creative twists and events that one would hope to see in this kind of unique setting. Arawen and Dezran through their roleplay managed to give in-game occurences different layers of meaning, something you would expect in a high-class fantasy novel focusing on character development and the human condition. Miscommunication regarding the status of the party's adversary Tol at the end was unfortunate, but didn't ruin the overall tone of the session. The encounters with Simon's (dream) father were standouts and the DMs interacted with each PC individually, making the experience special for each. Congratulations to Arawen for having her vision come alive. --Carlo

I really enjoyed the finale to this adventure.

As a group we hadn't played for a long time but it was very easy to slip back into the mix. The DMs do an excellent job with the NPCs and really allow the party to control the experience. An example was trying to free Simon from the Law Bringers. One of them picked up on a throw away comment about fairy tales and it was this that we used to finally persuade them to release the captice...classic stuff!

The smaller number of players really allowed everyone to shine as well. We had all invested a lot of time in this series and this really paid off by being able to have a great finale.

This session, first after a long break, was well-paced and had events of interest for all the PCs; the encounter with the great eagle was of particular interest to Sayf and was tailored explicitly to his background, making the session an important one for his development. The DM team did a fine job of handling multiple NPCs, allowing for the party to do more than one thing at a time, particularly useful in the Festhall. Felt that it may have been a little on the easy side dealing with the Cloud Dragon, but can't complain about the results. ;) --Carlo

Though so far we have seen only a bit of the beauties that surely await us in the Underdark, once again the music is deserving of a 10. The music set the exotic, dark and a little sad mood of the Underdark and really inspired us all for some great roleplaying. The way Jonas was introduced to the rest of the party was really creative and worked seemlessly. Once again very interesting NPCs, and also VERY diverse, forcing the party to make difficult choices and act differently each time. The fighting was quite easy but still entertaining (it's nice to win anyway, leave the drama and near death situations for the more plot related battles). The plot is slowly unfolding and little by little we discover a bit more about who's behind the shadow gates and Tristo's family kidnapping. Good show! - FP

I'm very impressed. Though I have been in this campaign for only two sessions, I can tell that these DMs really know what they're doing. The adventure stage is carefully set up and every area has beautiful design and music. The NPC were very interesting and distinct, providing some interesting interaction. The plot slowly unfolds and new elements are revealed every week. Very fun! Good show!

Arawen and Lastone did an amazing job in DMing my introductory session for Castellar Chronicles. Starting in a more than interesting situation, the game flowed smoothly, with great interaction between PCs and NPCs. Beautifully designed areas, and amazing music to set the mood for some great roleplaying. I particularly enjoyed the words that the elves inside the tower spoke to the King Tristo, as well as the suspicion of the folk of Firalir about my character Zakafein. Great session that set me on track for much more fun to come. Good show! - FP

Another really enjoyable session. Glad that the DM's forced the Mummy armour issue to a head, it allowed great role play from all involved.

I find myself being constanly surprised with this game. The ending this week was great!!

One area for improvement would be to try and force the players to work more strategically with their available resources. Currently we seem able to handle anything beacuse we throw everything we've got at a situation and then have rest opportunities straight after. We need to be punished if we make mistakes....I'm not talking death or anything but treasure being stolen, incapacitated characters. The dream world allows for anything to happen, perhaps we become insubstantial and can only interact verbally with situations. As I say we have no real motive for planning attacks and reserving our strength. With time being of the essence we should only be allowed ot rest if we REALLY need to. I appreciate this is the first running of thismodule so it might be easier to judge for the next group that play it through.

Still had a great time though!

What can I say? Very good game, extremely smooth; we steamrolled right over the very few glitches as if they never happened; DMs were prompt to correct any problems. DMs were also exceptional multitaskers, attending to several characters simultaneously with no noticeable delay. Plotwise, I loved the cursed armor- that was really inspired on the part of both the DMs and the players.

07/26/04 9 10 9 9 10 10 10 8 9 9
I have to say it is extremely hard to find a DM that is quite as 'open' as Arawen - she proves to all the NWN critics that the game certainly is not limited in its mechanics when she can allow the players imaginations to shape the story and truly make it a personal experience like none other and allow us to do 'whatever' we wish. She is a masterful DM managing to solve technical problems smoothly and with amazing grace so that the players never feel they have left the real world and once her game starts, you won't believe you are anywhere else except in her world. She has created the land of Castellar which is a truly excellent fantasy world and this campaign is truly epic. Simply - years from now when I may have moved on with my life, one of the first memories of NWN will be my ones here with her at the helm simply because they will be some of the best I have had (and I have had quite a few). *She* is just that good (and also she is so accomodating and friendly with her players too, she makes you feel special) - if you ever see her looking for players, if you are not interesting in being a part of her games, you really dont want to be a part of some of the best experiences possible :) Thank you Arawen! *top 5 DM.. of course*

Aside from the server problems this was a fun game! Its nice to be in the realm of hope and to see DMs RPing the Golden Goose!!

The trembling mine was great too and I love the 'classic' fairytale rip offs!!

I think we tend to get a little too much treasure for what we do (although I'm used to playing at a lower level so this may be the norm) and I find it annoying that we can use the shops in the DM lobby when clearly the setting (a boy's dream) should prohibit it! The party should be working together to take whatever treasure is of the most value and be forced to leave the rest behind, not sell it because we happen to be in a lobby area waiting to be shifted to the place we last left off. This ruins any immersion in the setting for me. Just my opinion!

That said, these DMs clearly put in a lot of work for us players and it really is appreciated. The new looting scripts have helped and you get a definite sense that the treasure that is available is carefully selected based on the party members.

Thank you I always have a great time....

I really enjoy this Dreamland setting that Arawen has created. The possibilities are endless. Just when we thought we'd have an easy ride in the Realm of Hope did we face a different set of problems (no-one taking us seriously and a dragon with a feline- complex), fantastic!

The DMs work well as a team and because there's 3 of them all bases are covered. Can't wait for next time!

This set of modules really is fun! The swamp wiches setting was great and the claustrophobia felt in those woods with far off skeleton mages hurling missiles at us was just brilliant! And it happened twice! (Curse those recurring nightmares!) While it was a shame we didn't have the full compliment, I am used to adventuring with smaller parties so it only enhanced the experience for me. It gave me a chance to interact more with those PCs I hadn't really dealt with upto now. It was full of surprises too! Kerynn's appearance was a shock but not as much as 'evil' Kerynn! I can't wait for next time!

Even without Dezran, Arawen did a superb job juggling NPC's, keeping the story going and us on our toes as the plot twists really spiced things up. Can't wait for our next game and our next trip together.

Another thoroughly enjoyable session! Technical issues marred things slightly but we were able to get past them. A number of fantastically tense moments and settings really added to the experience. The forest of despair was great, I was genuinely frightened for my character. More please! As a new group the PCs are still unsure of everyone's role but I'm sure this will settle down as we become more accustomed to each other.

I must say that in 2 hours time, I thoroughly enjoyed myself for this first session. The locations were very nicely built, and the NPCs and story had a great flow and nice plot twists. And the other players were good roleplayers who did surprisingly well considering we were a new party. And although there were a few technical glitches (no surprise since its bound to happen the first time), it did not hinder the pace and I truly enjoyed myself. Well done Arawen and Dezran, and I get giddy at the thought of the campaign getting better as we go along.

What can I say? This was great! The DM was organised, friendly and helpful and the game itself was fun. The NPC work was fantastic! Each one had personality and was good to interact with (even the standard 'city guard' types).

As a new player I felt very welcome in a group of highly experienced other players.

The only problem was the scope of the quest at hand and the time we had to do it in. As a one shot there was much to achieve and it felt a little rushed in places, although to be honest the PCs dawdling all over the place couldn't have helped matters.

I can't wait until our campaign starts properly.

The "Souls of Shadow" prelude/side quest for Planewalkers was very well designed and integrated both plots and players from the main Castellar campaign seamlessly. One truly got the feeling of being part of an ongoing, complex world after just one session, an accomplishment in itself. An original story with a unique feel, as should befit an original campaign world. The beginning was a little rough in terms of setting up the scenario and I would have liked more interaction with Kerynn, but in the event the party came together without much of a problem. Combat was appropriate and interaction with various NPCs was a highlight, as Arawen managed a number of different ones both adeptly and creatively as a solo DM. Hardly needs to be said, but I am looking forward to the main event. --Carlo

Arawen's games continue to amaze me. I'm always impressed by the envolving and ever growing storyline. I feel completely engrossed in a new and different world. Its exciting, fun, and very well designed.

Tonight's game was very stable and easy to navigate, despite recent server issues.

Freddie continues to proves to be a descpicable character who is being controlled by his own addictions and misguided goals. Characters continue to be well thought out, and interact very well with PC's.

With the switch in DM's, there was bound to be some confusion. Add to that one DM who was recovering from surgery, and a new set of technical glitches and it makes for a problem waiting to happen.

They handled it with grace though, and managed to make a highly enjoyable game nonetheless. Arawen held it together and kept hte spirit of the campaign ever-present, and the two newer DM's seemed to catch on quickly. Great job guys!

I very much enjoyed this game but I feel I must make a few comments and this I think may be a result of the one or both of new DMs (JaxCalinator & Lastone)that took part in this game. I am sure that their participation changed the 'style' of the game significantly in certain areas from what the old Chimera DMs would have and as a player, two scenes come to mind. I must say in advance to the two new DMs not to take the criticisms to heart because theya re jsut meant as feedback to hopefully take on board.

The first is the inn scene which I don't think worked as the new DMs intended. The behaviour of the waitress was crass and hostile for no significant reason and shouting out that 'freaks' had entered was not very IC at all (actually made me cringe :/ ). I think this may be because one of the new DMs was possessing her and didn't know what to do with her?

Likewise, there were some other bits there such as rat infestations and skunks which seemed to spoil the mood and make it rather slapstick. I think the Castellar Chronicles has worked perfectly as it was in previous games and this change made things a little unsure. I think some of the characters were confused how to react to the unfounded abuse - so much so that i think two of then chose to leave quicky because if they hadn't, weapons may have been drawn and words exchanged? :/

Also there was some strange DM behaviour such as the puppy appearing in the middle of the inn 'they didn't walk in but actually faded in, a big no-no' and also a skunk forgotten outside the inn when the party exited? My advice about this to the new DMs is that instead of going crazy on scenes, take your time and keep everything under control. Otherwise the players will fall out of the realism of the scene. And make it realistic - for me as a player, the second I start getting annoyed at npc behaviour, i start losing falling out of the game itself. And I sat my character on the ground and became very quiet waiting for the scene to end.

Second scene is the actual hound encounter - was there a mistake in encounter difficulty? I was sure we were about to hit a full part decimation until some of the hounds were DM killed etc so balance it out :) Also very uncharacteristic so you can't blame me for thinking if one of the new bloods on the DM team were a little overzealous with the monsters :P But in that, I myself have in previous games overestimated parties and had to kill monsters. Its a learning experience definitely.

I am sorry if this sounds very harsh but we were advised to provide feedback for the new DMs and this is not supposed to be soul-breaking in anyway but a player prespective on how one could possibly change things in future. Of course the best thing is to let Arawen show you how the heart and soul of Castellar Chronicles works because it is sucha beautiful thing and once you can get it in your stride, it really is poetry in motion.

Thank you again Arawen for letting us back into your world and good luck with your new students! I very much look forward to our next game!

[Arawen's reply to comment: Thank you for taking the time to provide such thoughtful and detailed feedback. We all want Castellar Chronicles to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. -- Arawen]

Admitedly my first DMed game, I enjoyed the move away from persistant worlds and the likes.

Fun and smooth, not complicated and not full of glitches, with still enough freedom to do what we wanted and still get harrased by cillage guards for it at the end.

Despite a late start - something of a tradition with us - and us players taking forever to get in gear after that because we were fussing around with our clothes, once the game got started it all flowed very smoothly, and was just tons of fun. The NPC interactions were, as always, superb. And the wedding surprise was priceless. A great game as always from these DM's!

For all intents and purposes, this will be my first review of a Castellar gaming session. I joined up during an intermediate portion of the module that was mostly background story for one of the characters.

Sunday's gaming session was great, in my opinion. I've never played a campaign this heavy into roleplay, and its a great change of pace to be able to do some hardcore RP.

It was also nice to have a chance to impact the story with personal interaction with NPC's. It feels good when you can help out your entire party directly using your character's knowledge and background to help them proceed.

The other players in the group are great roleplayers, and make the game extremely interesting and fun to play. I think I speak for everyone when I say Tristo is my favorite of all, and we all know why. 8-D

Gonesailing's Sands of Time continues to be one of the most breath taking campaigns I have played in - NWN is supposed to be a medium to roleplay and few DMs take the time to add the effort into visual beauty and musics that turns this campaign into a work of art. This game we were treated to some astounding imagery, from the dances of pixies in the forest at night matched with haunting music, to dark caves lit with scintillating lights and at the same time surrounding by the screechings of thousands of spiders in the background as we were venturing further into the spider Kings lair.

Not to say that the npcs and the story were not masterfully controlled and woven either, that is a sure thing with these guys but I am pretty sure that years from now these images from Sands of Time will still be dancing in my head in recollection of those magical NWN online moments. Thank you so much!

Despite the technical glitch that is HotU, these games remain stellar and immensely fun. Verm's introduction was interesting, and letting Tia have a homecoming reception, and see Tel again was great - even if she did take up way too much time with her homecoming stuff. ;) (sorry by the way) Castellar is just a great example of what NWN gaming can be, and Arawen and Gone exceptional Dm's. Thanks both!

Overall the game was fun, but I felt there were some things missing. Some tangible and others not so. Firstly I think the game felt rushed to me. We only had two hours and we had to go over that a bit, due to a late start because of player technical issues, but it still felt rushed. The story however fit into the time frame, but I did not expect to come to the end of it so soon..I was expecting more. A couple of encounters and then we were done. They story was given the sense of continuing, and with another module the adventure may continue, but it just seemed on the lite side to me.

What was there was good, the NPCs were well done, the areas made sense and there were no haks to download. I like custom content as a DM myself, but it certainly makes getting into the game easier without it and she used the engine given to her well I felt. The plot was good and made sense, though again, felt very brief. I'd have liked more time to RP I think, but that may have been player fault more than DM. Overall a good one shot. Kudos

Good, fun, fast Game. In fact, the only real problem with it was that it was over much too soon! Really, if you could find a way to add an hour to it, it would be much better IMO. More time might make it possible add more character to the erm.. characters. Although Brother Durham was great. Make sure to invite me whenever you put out the sequal!   I am really looking forward more of this campaign - what an exciting start... there is such effort put into the npcs, the story and even the music.. this campaign is a work of art. And I feel priviledged to be part of it, thank you! Its games like this that make me feel that people that don't play DMed games really are missing out, games like this are just experienced, not explained. There were emotional times, there were more light hearted times and it was always atmospheric. I was there in the world, pure and simple and this is the work of the top DMs around at their best.   Absolutely fantastic gaming session! One of the best ever! the meeting in the inn with the grandfather and the grandaughter was one of the great sentimental gaming moments. The environments with the music, wild magic effects, skies, whether, and even the blidning headaches my character experienced all pulled together to create a superb professional-quality experience.

Despite technical glitches, this was still a great game, and tied up a lot of running plots, while opening up a whole new can of worms at the same time. These DM's never fail to do a great job, and I love all the little touches of humor that pop up in unlikely places. The Codex's insistance that it was actually a book on woodcarving (that as Gone, I believe) had me rolling. And Gorg's ranting against his employer was funny too. And the ice cream seller! Hee! Great job to both Dm's.

This DM team is SO smooth you forget that it's largely a soundstage module, most of the time. The combat sequences were hard, but not too hard, and the plot continues to be exciting, interesting, and really let the players feel like they are shaping the story. There were some lag issues in fights, but not too terrible. Great game!

This was really a stand out game I thought. I was great having a full crew and the DM's were right on top of us. Battles were still just a touch hard considering how much we died and had to be helped a bit, but I think that was more because of lag-based-mistakes than unbalance in the combat. The twist with our helpless damsel in distress at the end was very fun, and the humor scattered around the library was wonderful. Great game!

  Excellent game!

The game was constrained to be a bit linear by the time limit but you did well to not make us feel led by the nose. I particularly enjoyed not having to kill the bad guy (yet we still got to have a climactic battle).

The plot was a little unclear but once again I blame having to shoehorn a complex story into 4 hours.

Top 5!

This was my first NWN multiplayer game on NWN communities. Altough I have no previous experience, I still think this was a very nice game and a fine example of how roleplaying should be played. Despite internet lag and a faulty server they managed to give us a very nice adventure. I look forward to my second game.

A good game that started out a bit slow but ended with a bang. The characters and the adventure are starting to take on a more epic feel, especially considering you have tiny comments from Parth and his henchman about their possible futures. That was an excellent way to build the characters up and make them start seeming like heros.

I'm starting to run out of things to say in these comment boxes, as there's rarely anything to give criticism on, and the praise likely gets repetitive. Battles were a bit tough this session without a tank, but I saw a few of the baddies standing still a few times to let us regroup. :) Maybe battles could be toned down a a bit before we get there so Dm's don't have to do that? I'm just looking for something interesting to say here really though. I adore these games, and look forward to each week.

My two favorite NPC's this week were the Queen, and the little child pip. They were both played perfectly, pip with her childish outbirsts, and the queen with her outward coldness, yet her surprising touch of warmth at the end.

Only thing I might comment on is that the courtroom was quite crowded and as such made for some lower framerates.

The trial was surprising, well thought out, well organized and GREAT fun. It's difficult to tell where the line between pre-planned and on-the-fly storytelling is with these DM's - and that's one of their greatest strengths. As always a fun, interesting, and surprising game. The new sewer set was a nice change from the usual tiles - even if I could see them properly - and the claustrophobic fights down there added a lot of added tension. Great game.

Due to too much partying into the wee hours Boh wasn't really at himself at all ;). In fact its all a bit hazy. However what I can remember is a good storyline, and an environment filled with with creative use of the engine. The NPCs we did come across fleshed out the scenario establishing the atmosphere as that of a persistent World. My only disappointment was that of my own fatigue, I would have liked to have fulfilled my role more and questioned more of the scenario, I was just about able to hang on for the ride! *(

Once again our dm's pulled out all the stops. It was an excellent adventure and I'm getting a better sense of the overall plot. One thing in particular that was very clever was upcoming trial of the little girl pip. Who'd of known our clever dm's would latch onto some little event that happened last week and pull into a full blown plot poin for next. Looking forward to see how this gets resolved.

This Dm team never fails to deliver an interesting, surprising, refreshing, and innovative game. Tiny details of characters' histories and rp come back in unexpected and delightful ways. Pip taking the fall was a GREAT twist and I can't wait to see how it plays out. Not only is the large and over-arching plot fascinating and fun in these games, but the little side plots and developments are all fascinating too. They do a great job. Good game, as always.

Good game, and very well organized. The pace of the party was really high and they managed it, a very good job. Also some nice use of the pause, as a shock moment of thoughts that shoot through your mind. Had a great time.

This was a good game, interesting, many unique aspects, and appropriate to a one-shot game. I've never been attacked by books before! However: - The inn scene felt like it had a lot of unexploited possibilities. Perhaps if we hadn't suffered from the sudden bar brawl (I think due to a DM using shift-click to move the Rakshasa) it would have been easier to build some intrigue, make us reflect on the nature of our employer, or on the ramifications our mission might have for the town or the Jilal temple. When we finally got the book it became clear that there were some strong connections there. - Once in the library, we seemed to stumble around randomly forever. Was this because of our own disorganized group, or could we have found a better sense of direction had there been more clues strewn about? - Since we were in a one-shot game, there was little sense of reward along the way. I managed to grab some magical loot, and others did the same, I believe, but I felt we lacked a sense of accomplishment. We just stumbled on towards the inevitable. Perhaps waypoints in the 3-hour session could be planned that would allow us to take stock of the progress we'd made.

I enjoyed this game thoroughly and was glad to discover the Castellar Campaign (at a Euro-friendly time!)

  Something's Cooking - Playtest

Great light hearted little adventure...

Much of it is already perfect;

Area design is well done and the sizes are just right. Game flowed easily and DMs and Players all did well in keeping it going. Sound effects and custom items and custom monster in kitchen were all great additions to game.

More comments in a PM.

An enjoyable game. The DMs bought the NPCs to life, and the adventure was enjoyable, if short.

two dm's...you'd of never known though...practically every patron in the bar scene was carrying on conversations with other people while we were there. Exquisitly done. I can't wait to play again.

These always-excellent DM's outdid themselves this game. The tavern scene was completely immersive and hugely fun. It felt cluttered and chaotic and interesting and vibrant - just as it should. The NPC's were all distinctly themselves, and the story moved along without ever making us feel pressured, or like we were lost. The trip through the crypts - or the beginning of it - was challenging without being impossible and the appearance of Brakar's brother great fun.

Great job, both!

This DM team never fails to impress me. The innovative and interesting library was great fun to travel through. The Librarian-turned-Lich was wonderfully nutty, and Bigo the Hapless Halfling was adorably clueless. NPC's are all vibrant and distinctive in these games, the setting unique, well thought out, and very interesting to play in. A great job as always this week.

My second game, and the plot is staring to take shape a bit more as I'm learning a bit about the group's nemesis. The world is truly massive in scale, and we've only been roaming around one city. I can't wait to see what it looks like in the rural areas. As an added bonus, with more than one dm you truly get an added sense that the world is alive as NPCs bustle about the area full of their own thoughts, actions, and desires. Excellent job.

As usual a great game. Dol Agath is an interesting city, filled with Harry Potter and Neverending Story like characters and situations. I found myself chuckling at the thought of getting attacked by rogue books and then actually getting bitten by books. Brakar never knew a library could be so fun or that his axe would find such use. :) Very imaginative and original and truly something I have not see in any other games I have played or DM'd. Awesome job guys.

It was nice to see the whole DM team back in business this game. They did a great job as usual. NPC's were vibrant and distinctive. Bigo especially was a treat. There were a few times when things got a bit confused and Dalwei was a bit unresponsive, but those things happen. All and all a great game, as always, from these DM's.

I've never played campaigns with multiple dm's so I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this three headed hydra. I must say though the results were far better than I could have imagined. The Dm's worked so well together that it really could have been mistaken for a single DM had not we had the wonderful NPC interactions, and areas being set up in a way that only multiple dm's could accomplish. Well done on both the logistics and for the plot.

The Dm's claimed they hadn't anticipated our actions and that they had to make up responses on the fly. For an improved response, they did astoundingly well. Play flowed smoothly and easily and the manipulations of the players were answered with varying degrees of success and failure. A great game - lots of fun and thought provoking. Thanks guys!

Once again a great game by the Castellar DMs. I noted some more originality in this game and some unique areas and plots were introduced which were fun and kept us going. Definately some unique ways to handle situations, even though my dwarf just wanted to fight through them all. :) Great job guys as usual.

This Dm team continues to improve and be inspiring and fun to play with. NPC's this game were vibrant and alive, and the game was full of personalized touches to immerse each individual player in the game. The departure of a character was handled creatively and the inclusion of a new one was both fun and interesting. The DM's seemed to communicate very well with one another and to almost always be on top of what each of the PC's were doing, in addition to being expressive and inventive with the NPC's. Great Game!

A good game as always. The NPC's felt a bit flat to me this time around - but perhaps that was because of my stuttery connection, or because they just WERE a bit flat by personality. It'd be nice if the clock day/night could be manually controlled, since the dawning sun gave a bit of pressure to move along I think at one point. But these were minor issues. I liked the clinging mud and the dead lizards that are invulnerable at night.

06/30/03 9 10 10 10 10 9 10 10 10 10
*whistles* I have to say, squaring off with Jart in that hallway is one of the most tense moments in my NWN history. I kept expecting him to wipe the guards out or make a run for it...or worse...that the guards were actually already bought by him. I'm glad I was back in time to see this all pan out! Great game, and looking forward to seeing what you have lined up for our little party of misfits next.

It was a fun game, but there were the technical problems with the new 1.30 patch and SoU. The conversations with NPCs this time around gave enough information to act on. When our group decided our plan, the DMs were well prepared for it.

This game was maybe a bit more confused than others at times (NPC's seemed to take a bit longer to respond, and it took a bit to get going) but it remained a very fun game despite that. NPC's were vibrant and fun- Narvik continues to be an oddly funny madman, and the woodsmen in the swamp made me giggle. Great game as always from these two talented DM's.

Arawen and Thaelson, as always, did a great job this game. They're always right on top of what their players are attempting to do, and the combat they place is always hard enough to be challenging, but not so hard that it disillusions us, or leads to infinite deaths.

Whoa. Good myth. :) Dream-sequences, Oracles and Sirens are cool too. Neat NPC work. Can tell you've spent a great deal of time working on the world, and look forward to (at least) comleting the prelude.

05/17/03 8 10 10 9 9 10 8 10 9 9
T'was good fun... pity i was a little too out of it at points to pick up on some of the finer touches, though I do see it as a fine lead in to something bigger and better. The dream sequence was nice, if a bit confusing for those without more knowledge of the pantheon and history of the world. All in all a fine game, that I look forward to finishing off some time soon.

05/16/03 10 10 10 10 10 8 9 10 10 10
This was a game Arawen threw together for us as a one shot as we were in chat and bored. This is only a small part of her campaign and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There is alot going on and you get the sense of it while playing this bit. Makes you want to be a part of her normal campaign which is where this one shot came from. The combat we faced was a little easy, but we were not unscathed and we have only seen a very tiny portion of combat so far. Still fun anyway. The dream sequences are very unique and it was fun playing in this world. Maybe one day I can join in her campaign when she begins again. Great job Arawen! I gave it a little low on the treasure, but we were told that the world was a treasure light world. So it didn't bother me at all.

The players made this game un-fun for me, not the DMs. It was late to start because of server issues, but it was late to start nonetheless.

05/04/03 9 9 10 9 10 9 10 9 10 10
Another lovely game! The time and thought put into constructing the mod, the world, and the storyline really shows. Both mods are adaptable and go with their player's RPing, which just makes the game great.

05/04/03 9 8 10 10 10 9 10 10 10 9
We had a little trouble getting started tonight due to server issues. We also had some door problems in-game, so I dinged you a bit for those. Other than that, it was another great campaign. I really like the story and the battles were quite challenging, but not impossible. Thanks again Arawen and Thael! T-S

Excellant wrap up to the session. The plot stayed tight all the way through, and the interaction with the NPC's was excellant. The ending did an good job of tying together the loose ends of the plot line very efficiently.

04/12/03 8 10 10 8 9 9 8 9 7 8
The plot was too readily apparent, I thought. The players got an idea that Tenken was obviously involved with his own stuff. Allocated time was also short, IMO (which is a very common feeling I have). Outdoors were enjoyable. Fighting was medium to heavily stacked against NPCs. The whole Duergar camp fight was clearly going to be a problem, and when the Duergar initiated it from a roleplaying situation with no forewarning, I thought that was a bad thing both in terms of roleplaying (I didn't even have time to know they were getting mad) and in terms of fairness of fight. I did have a lot of fun, though.

04/11/03 6 8 10 8 8 9 7 5 6 7
Arawen and elchwang did a very good job DMing this module (not theirs). A couple minor technical glitches didn't detract from their constant monitoring of the group and PnP DM style of providing information and reacting well to PCs' actions. With the limited selection of NPCs provided, they also gave them some depth. A fun session, overall.

Module design was less impressive, although part of the problem may have been merging two groups, which lost some of the continuity. There was not a lot of explanation of what was going on and why it was included -- nest of vampires and undead in the same area as an old cleric of Ilmater and (separately) a bunch of duergar black marketeers? An unavoidable AT ambush was also an unpleasant shock. At the beginning, more of the setup (XP and gold to new characters, if a certain minimum level was necessary) could have been scripted to lessen the load on the DMs. Scores given reflect the mod more than the DMs, but that's the way the rating system goes -- another reason I want to just be able to leave comments. *sighs* Good job done by the DM team, in any case! --Carlo

Great design and execution! The story really took center stage this session; returning to the village under our protection and finding it burning and butchered - complete with corpses of all the villagers that we had known - was remarkably effective. This was the best session yet of a fantastic series.

03/02/03 10 10 10 10 10 9 9 10 10 10
This story grows richer and more complex each session. With so many things going on, we still have a clear path, and are never at a loss as to what we should do next, although we may ague about in which order we should do it. This is a great feature of this game, that so much can be going on yet still not be overwhelming. Special thanks to Arawen for her contributions during the Duergar fight scene (you know the one :) and for her descriptive tells.

My only real complaint about this mod is that the fights completely exhaust a completely prepared party. It's like we fight like there's no tomorrow, nuking and boosting away, and rest at the end of it to regain all spells and hp. Personally not my style, I like a system more like real D&D, but I admit, systems like those haven't really jumped out at us, have they? Perhaps a simple rest restriction and less overwhelming combat will serve the same purpose. Anyway, it's a small point, and the only mar on an otherwise wonderful game. I especially like the way the DMs encouraged us to take a few moments and roleplay... of course, those moments turned into bunches of minutes! :)

In fairness my gripe probably has nothing to do with the DM. This was my first game so I have no other DM experience to compare it to. I thought we played too tenatively with no defined leader, in which case I thought we spent too much time examining corpses and not enough time developing the story.

A very well-coordinated effort to bring the nwn engine to life. Their great control over the npcs and excellent improvisational skills put them in my top 5 DM list. I can't wait to continue our adventure.

Two thumbs up for this team. So far, this caipaign really started up nicely. The characters really had a personality, the DMs were polite and patient, and everything went smoothly!

I'm eager for next week's session!

I feel the game was ran with precision and thought. Not only did they allow us to use out of the client tasks, we also got to put their wits to the test with our spontanious ideas.

The DM is very, very fine, though she constantly healed near-dying party members in battle, and in my eyes, not reacted accordingly to the behaviour of some players. But she is really, really good with NPCs and setting the atmosphere. Damn nice too :) - Shinji -

Loved the game had no issues with the DM. flow of the game was fine if the Pc's could make up our minds.

Arawen said it was her first time GM'ing. If it wasn't for the server problems, this had the potential to be a very good DM'ed game. Thank you.
