Reviews To Date for Smart Alec
12/08/11
Wally Coppernut a Halfling: Big brothers are supposed to look after you and /not/ go and have relationships with air-headed dolls who make them want to stay at home. LB‘s playing it up gave a great opportunity to play the sniping side for Tara, which you pull off wonderfully with never a fear of it not being taken in good part. To invest so much in your PCs and still make them provide such good straight guys for others to have fun is a talent of yours that beats any I know. Awesome as ever.
10/05/11
Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne: The king of snark continues in his role as the Toyne Company works it‘s way through Carceri now. Not sure if that dress is going to intimidate or not, mind.
08/10/11
Wally Coppernut a Halfling: The serious, sensible and sturdy little cleric is yet another masterpiece from SA. Torn away from home again and hating every minute of it, yet the servant of Yondala always does the right thing to the best of his ability. If the mage is the wind that steers the group Wally is the island in the sea of chaos that he chooses to use as an anchor. Poor chap definately doesn‘t deserve his sister‘s behaviour. Another star.
08/09/11
Comments in reference to the character Dermot Kenner a Half-Elf: The normally quiet Dermot scored big during this session as his feel for the situation clearly surpassed that of his companions. His observational skills were aroused by the new situation and all were impressed by his technique with the locals in a new city. I‘m sure Shanni would agree that he was a BPiG. --Carlo
07/19/11
Wayland “Will“ Toyne: Another excellent PC from SA. The third campaign and Will is once more the slightly self-interested, just a little edgey, possibly patronising, wizardly self. Though not a comic character SA‘s flare for humour showed when buffing to perform a task was excellent in it‘s portrayal of a Will as a man addicted to his magic. Just like SA, Will makes you want to back for more.
06/27/11
Comments in reference to the character Dermot Kenner a Half-Elf: I am sorry to have missed so much of Dermot‘s time with the group, because I see such wonderful byplay and great use of emotes to define the character. I look forward to learning more of Dermot in the future.
05/30/11
Comments in reference to the character Dermot Kenner a Half-Elf: Dermot‘s motivations and background were on display during this session, perhaps for the first time around all of his new companions, although in an understated way. His experience in such matters - shown by his reference to how to pick up old trails - is being challenged by the new situation he has found himself in, unfamiliar territory with unfamiliar people. Contributions to the group for this new PC are nevertheless becoming evident, as the party relied on him to keep watch over the Astorians‘ house alone for a tense and dangerous span of time. This part in particular was well done and earns a special nod from the DM. --Carlo
04/25/11
Dermot Kenner: Here we have a very intriguing character. On the surface of it what we have is a man passively following the group, adding in points and opinions fairly infrequently, and on the whole seeming to be third henchman from the left. Then you notice that those points are sharp, and the opinions are directing, and that he is quietly intent on the task before the group, which is odd for a man just following along. I have no idea where this is going yet, but I do know SA, and know it will be worth the wait.
04/19/11
Comments in reference to the character Dermot Kenner a Half-Elf: (Add Comments Here) A new addition to the group, Dermot‘s still getting his feet wet but well played and in-character to be sure, skeptical, cautious and with a few good ideas already. I‘m looking forward to learning more about Dermot and his backstory.
03/14/11
Comments in reference to the character Dermot Kenner a Half-Elf: This was Dermot‘s introduction to the Westgate Campaign. He was played with ease, fluidity and intelligence, picking up on all of the cues given to him and also establishing himself early on as an independent personality. I particularly liked touches such as when he commented to himself about the boat on top of the Giant‘s Folly inn, which shows that the player is both serious about and thoroughly enjoys roleplaying. Also worked excellently with the DM in the character creation process and in preparation for the session. Not surprising given Smart Alec‘s extensive experience, but well worth mentioning. --Carlo
02/23/11
Wally Coppernut a Halfling: What can you say about SA that hasn‘t already been said a hundred times. Wally is a grand take on a beleagured cleric away from home and not necessarily liking it. The ‘looking after‘ an errant sister has many a funny moment too. As ever, a thoroughly effective handling of the class. Gotta love him.
12/09/10
Comments in reference to the character Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne a Human: Our reluctant leader managed to help keep a divergent group from flying off in different directions and through judicious spell use greatly strengthen the party. His dry wit added greatly to my enjoyment of the game both IC and OOC.
12/09/10
Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne : I admit I adore SA as a player, and this character was near perfection. Fantastic RP as a wizard deeply fascinated by his craft, but never so much so that he failed to consider those around him. Eventually the one to whom all looked for leadership, which he managed very well. Funny with a fine line in black comedy that had me rolling more than once. A born survivor and a masterful hand with both offensive and defensive magic. Can‘t fault him IC or OOC. My joint BiG for campaign.
11/16/10
Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne : If anyone ever told me I‘d spend half a game with my PC dead and /still/ enjoy it then I‘d not have believed them, but this was the case. Will and another managed to stay alive and between them became masters of survival tactics. Awesome use of summons to get the two out of harm and some very stylish running away. Fantastic play and RP that was hysterical to watch. The endless jug of ale was some excelent black comedy, and again I found it hard not to give it, but SA just lost out on BiG to the charming of a giant tortoise.
11/12/10
Simon Thorpe : Poor fellow, it looks like no one is really taking this adventuring seriously. An excellent portrayal of the resigned straight man, who still manages to feed most of the humour one way or another. He seems to be carefully working out how to manage each and every one of us. This group is so hard to pick a best of for but again, narrow on BiG missing out by a sliver.
11/12/10
Comments in reference to the character Simon Thorpe a Man Who Wanted A More Serious Name: All Simon wanted was a respectable name and a few cheap drinks, maybe some new magical supplies. One out of three, it seems, isn‘t bad. A good game from SA, as always.
10/29/10
Simon Thorpe: What do I say that I haven‘t said so many times before? When you want an entertaining PC who still gets things done there are none you could go to that are better than SA. Simon emerged as something of the leader again this session, despite any ambitions on behalf of the half-orc. Both creative and responsive to RP, and moving us forward always in the right direction. Hysterical RPed chat when holding the torch in his teeth to tie knots, and so near the BiG he only it on a sliver. Either way he‘s still a star.
10/28/10
Comments in reference to the character Simon Thorpe a Man With Ideas: If anyone‘s coming across as a leader so far, it‘s Simon. Driven by both a desire to get paid and a desire to keep living, he walks the line between the two like a metaphorical tightrope artist. As for how he‘s played, well, you can only expect the best from SA and he delivers it again in a character who‘s extraordinarily real despite being in an extraordinarily fantastic setting. He gets my BIG this game for that.
10/27/10
Comments in reference to the character Simon Thorpe a Human: Simon is definitely turning into one of the most leader-like characters of the group - but not the giving-orders type so much as the mucking-in type. It was really fun seeing him getting to grips (no pun intended) with the ropes, etc. Definitely one of the best-rounded and best-fleshed-out characters in the group.
10/21/10
Comments in reference to the character Simon Thorpe: SA never fails to impress, and this character is no exception. A definate impression superiority in the nature but co-operative and inclusive, helping to ensure the arriving PC entered into the RP of the group. Excellent as ever.
08/25/10
Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne a Human: The King of Snark strikes again. Officially he‘s serious in nature but the deadpan comments hit the spot everytime. Still the best player of wizards I‘ve ever seen, SA uses the class to bolster the long term damage the fighters can provide keeping just enough offensive strikes back for when they are needed. Tough decision not to give BiG again but you have my vote so often I thought I really should give it to someone else for a change!
07/21/10
Kato Akiko a Shujenka: Avoiding one fate to be driven by another, or perhaps the other way around, the girl‘s command of healing water spirits made her a key party member. Finely played, as usual, by SA the cryptic manner of speech and subtle refusal to follow appropriate social behaviour for a female for was highly amusing. Even the smidgeon of jealousy when the wimpy female got more attention because of it. SA is always a complete pleasure to be in a campaign with, and a narrow miss on Best in Campaign.
07/18/10
Comments in reference to the character Baron Nathan Isherwood a Human: I always enjoy playing this campaign. Nathan carries himself as a Baron, the party treats him like one. Well played character. He leads by example, sometimes not what everyone is looking for, but an accurate portrayal. BIG
06/20/10
Comments in reference to the character Baron Nathan Isherwood a Human: Great game, the Baron is always in character.

01/18/10
Comments in reference to the character Baron Nathan Isherwood a Human: Well played character. The whole party looks to the ‘baron‘ for leadership. Our trust is not misplaced. Lead on, Baron, Lead on.
01/16/10
Excellant rp with the tech priest. You really brought him to life.
01/10/10
Comments in reference to the character Alecsander ‘Alec‘ Stanning a Human: This. This guy. I have never before seen a wizard break down to tears due to stress and snide remarks from all the jocks in the team. The only way the scene would be more completely skewed against him is if the ladies of the team were clinging on the jocks at the same time. It‘s only a matter of time before he finally snaps and realizes he can use his brainpower to TAKE OVER THE WORLD. Like Bill Gates. Glorious roleplaying.
12/31/09
Comments in reference to the character Alecsander ‘Alec‘ Stanning a Human: I have a soft spot for Alec, I truly do. He seems cursed with the constant mistrust of his companions. Even though he‘s the most level-headed in terms of fulfilling his role, he comes across as cold and calculating at times (for example when he deemed burying every victim of the werewolves a tedious and unnecessary task). Most of the times he‘s right, and he‘s almost always the biggest puzzle-solver of the group. Such a pleasure to have you in the game! ~~ Anya
12/21/09
Comments in reference to the character Baron Nathan Isherwood a Human: Nathan works hard to complete his quest. However, when the evil Lich you‘ve finally managed to come face to face with tells you ‘you got the wrong evil guy‘, what‘s a paladin to do? May as well take on the next evil guy, I mean, who can blame you for listening to a lich, he is pointing his bony finger at an evil devil prince. Great game.

Alec did very well as always. His characters are believable and he creates a good deal of RP for the group.

Comments in reference to the character Alecsander ‘Alec‘ Stanning a Human: (Add Comments Here) As always Alec is an interesting character, the way he is trying to strength bonds with the rest of the group after the last event we had is showing a new phase of the smart wizard, I think we’ll see aspects from him that were hidden so far.
09/14/09
Comments in reference to the character Alecsander ‘Alec‘ Stanning a Human: (Add Comments Here) Alec was great this session, more thoughtful about the rest of the party but the same time keeping close eye where we were, always with words of wisdom to continue the adventure and trying to keep us all safe. A great character to see.

Comments in reference to the character Alecsander ‘Alec‘ Stanning a Human: (Add Comments Here) As always great character, Alec has that mix of intelligence and vision, combined with some confusing personality that is waiting there to be discovered and for us to get to know him.
09/02/09
Director Vasily Kasprjak a Russian: This PC has developed so much over the course of the two campaigns that it beggars belief. The reserved, stoic Russian soldier, could easily have become wallpaper in the hands of another player but not SA. While still every bit as stoic his commanding side emerged carefully and contributes more effectively to game play and the fun of RP than possibly any I have seen. Why anyone would ever think SA not believable as his character, I will never know. BiG
08/28/09
Comments in reference to the character Alecsander ‘Alec‘ Stanning a Human: I really like Alec, his personality is probably one of the most peaceful in the game, next to the elven cleric. I like that you, SmartAlec, are very attentive to details, that you roleplay even when you‘re by yourself (the hideout, the magic store) and that you don‘t let any opportunity for enriching the game pass by. Also, he doesn‘t forget his duty to the Harpers, even when his companions are in danger.

Comments in reference to the character Alecsander ‘Alec‘ Stanning a Human: Alec is always a joy to RP with... they always have a very realistic feel, and possess their own unique personalities (or at least, the ones I‘ve met so far hold to this!). Alec was our mage this time, and he performed his role well -- kept himself out of harm‘s way, flung his spells as needed, and generally carried on just as one would expect an arcane spell caster to do in the circumstances. Very believable. ;)

Comments in reference to the character Alecsander ‘Alec‘ Stanning a Human: (Add Comments Here) There had being not a single character I don’t like from this player, all I’ve known are delicious and well performed, deep in personality and reliable either during RP and combat, and Alec is not the exception. I’m having lot of fun watching him in action and hardly can wait to see more of him.

Comments in reference to the character Alecsander ‘Alec‘ Stanning a Human: (Add Comments Here) Great character, mysterious but the same time good team work, he keeps his personality all times.
07/29/09
Director Vasily Kasprjak : Strong but not so silent now, what with the job as boss and all. Still fantastically played as a stern and serious minded man, entirely committed to the job. Blending his RP into the job as a strategic directly that compliments the DMs activities while in no way overtaking or pre-empting them is a masterful piece of role play. Just when you think it‘s impossible, SA raises the bar again. BiG

Comments in reference to the character Martyn Rivers a Human: What a fun character! Not the brightest of the bunch, but definitely one of the most fun to watch. Almost like a big fighter with the heart of a kid. Eager to adventure and impress, but also eager to defend his companions! Great job! BIG this time ~Anya

06/17/09
Comments in reference to the character Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne: No one has seen a wizard until they‘ve seen one of SA‘s. The party would have been dead on many an occasion if not for Mr Badger, and Mr Boar, or Wolf for that matter. Fine knowledge of game play as a spellcaster was wonderfully complimented by the somewhat arrogant self-assuredness of the character. Instrumental in many a key decision and more often than not the first to form the correct conclusion from information presented to the party. SA is always good, but Will was grand. A deserved BiG for the campaign.
06/15/09
Comments in reference to the character Martyn Rivers a Human: (Add Comments Here) As always I love playing with him, any character he makes is a pleasure to see him in action. When I found out you were going to join the campaign I jumped happy from my chair. Keep the outstanding RP. M
06/14/09
Comments in reference to the character Martyn Rivers a Human: Interesting character - a human sword-for-hire. Still looking to get some more interaction with him, I think there‘s a great tale just under the surface with a bit of poking.
06/14/09
Comments in reference to the character Martyn Rivers a Human: Awesome :)
02/24/09
Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne a Human: A snarky mage who knows what he wants and is going to get it if at all possible. Another entertaining character from SA, with just enough of a compassionate side to make you think there‘s a little more than meets the eye. Or perhaps he‘s just manipulative to ensure that when his wants conflict with the paladins he‘ll have friends on his side. Excellent use of a wizard in supporting combat, producing summons that are often the key party tank (Mr Badger is awesome!) and dropping opportune magic damage in the big fights. Big on both RP and combat effectiveness.

01/26/09
Baron Nathan Isherwood a Human: Excellent portrayal of a paladin of Helm. Intent on completing the task set by his Lord as effectively as possible. Not allowing himself to be distracted by the goal and performing distasteful acts, such as the negotiation with the dragon, in order to do so. Effective as a player of his class, and with a good line in tactics that contributed well. Ever a pleasure to play alongside. BiG
01/04/09
Nathan Isherwood a Human: The new paladin is already adding to the function of the group. Serious and sensible, but with an eye on tactics. Well emoted responses to what might be controversial behaviour from some PCs, and as efffective an IC representation as I‘d expect from this SA. Excellent as ever.
11/26/08
Vasily Kasprjak a : Beginning as an fringe member the character slowly came to be the hinge pin to the team, developed through carefully considered RP and emerging as the leader when the team needed it the most. The well managed dialect portrayed the Russian back ground well, and even though the character was serious he was still entertaining. SA is always a fine player and this was no exception. Though individual sessions may have had players who shone more brightly, overall the greatest contribution lies with him. BiG, or rather best in campaign. :D
09/24/08
Vasily Kasprjak a : Solid game play and talented RP from the Russian fighter once more. The increasingly leadership in combat situations is proving to be a life saver and tactically he is always sound. The inspired RPing of this intriguing PC‘s character tops off as perfect icing on the cake.
06/24/08
Comments in reference to the character Samuel King a Human: Rather calm for someone staring down the end of a barrel, the preacher‘s arguments against violence were well thought out, if not eventually fruitless. His reflection afterwards on someone‘s willingness to shoot at a man of god was a very nice touch, and just enough to get a BiG. A great job!
06/24/08
Samuel King a Human: As ever a grand showing from SA. Excellently RPed attempt to change the stranded salvagers‘ minds, though doomed to end in failure, and some excellent background RP from start to finish.
06/23/08
Comments in reference to the character Soll Grimwood a : well-played character who adopted a peace-maker roll in the party. Offered some good ideas to the party, and stayed in character the whole time. Really enjoyed playing with this player.
06/23/08
Soll Grimwood : A sharp rogue, just loved his calling other PCs “Jim“ or “Jack“ rather than their own. Some solid ideas for attempting an escape, and the interaction with their saviour was excellent fun. Probably the only one to see through the elf too. BiG
06/23/08
Comments in reference to the character Soll Grimwood a : Soll added a great deal of flavor to the game, interacting with a lot of wit and intelligence with the others while trying to get his way. Excellent background also afforded several plot hooks for the DM. Smoothly and smartly played, well done. --Carlo
06/22/08
Comments in reference to the character Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne a Human: “Will“ was an excellent character and very well RP‘d as a relatively novice wizard out for adventure. He also had a sharp wit, which helped spice things up. Unfortunately couldn‘t make the last session, was missed by the others. Worked well with the party and played smartly throughout. Thanks also for helping playtest the pre-release version of “A Stop Along The Way.“ --Carlo
06/20/08
Comments in reference to the character Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne a Human: Magic is a powerful and wonderful thing, if you‘re on the right side of it - Will uses his power well as is he a great character to have in the party.
06/17/08
Comments in reference to the character Samuel King a Human: This time, the clever, clever Maybe A Shepard, Maybe Not, showed just HOW clever he is. He was very well played in his each role, and was extremely close to a BiG. I very much look forward to finding out what else he has in store.
06/17/08
Comments in reference to the character Samuel King a Human: A rather interesting change of direction for the shepherd. Did he or didn‘t he do it, and if so why? Simply can‘t wait to find out. Wonderfully RPed in taking advantage of crew confusion and the previously administered punishment to the prisoner to dodge an interogation. He‘d spotted the soft targets and made his plea to them. Excellent. BiG
06/03/08
Samuel King a Human: Another fine demonstration of RP, with the shepherd acting as a peacemaker trying to find a solution to the problem with the bounty hunter. Subtle and yet controlling. Well played.
06/03/08
Comments in reference to the character Samuel King a Human: At least, we get to actually meet Samuel King. And as a man of the cloth, he‘s done well, by carefully suggesting instead of preaching I feel like he was able to diffuse the growing debate about the captive man.
05/28/08
Vasily Kasprjak : As ever a fine showing. The soldier‘s advice in combat was useful and the RP as a rather angry character is excellent. Good play.
05/13/08
Vasily Kasprjak : A stoic, taciturn fellow, whose dissatisfaction at being reduced to working with civilians comes over brilliantly. The accent is a great touch, making it obvious he is not using his mother tongue without overplaying it. Also there as the tough guy when it is really needed. Wonderfully RPed as always, SA never disappoints. Great game.
04/15/08
Samuel King a Human: Not much chance for the shepherd to get deeply involved in activity so far, but all chances to get the character over were nicely handled. Loved him going back to his room and sitting waiting in fear while others, and he really came out at the end during the shooting. Great play making the most of what came your way.
04/14/08
Comments in reference to the character Samuel King a Human: Well-played, but didn‘t get a chance to take off. Looking forward to more.

Comments in reference to the character Leofa Ey‘renath a Elf: An utterly serious, but at the same time totally hilarious character. A dedicated fighter, with strong tactical input, who ended up being the main source of solutions for the puzzles they faced. The monologue throughout had me laughing but at the same time the player never lost sight of the fact that the fighter was there to do a job. BiG
02/09/08
Comments in reference to the character Paladin Lannard a Halfling: A well-crafted character who had some interesting personality quirks (“Call me ‘Pal‘“) and worked well with the rest of the Hunters. Smartly played in-game, provided good ideas while chasing down the Hunted. --Carlo
01/23/08
Comments in reference to the character 2nd. Lt Joe ‘Sunny‘ Abnett a Human: I haven‘t been doing many reviews lately, but given the overall quality of Smart_Alec‘s play, I thought I‘d give him a long-deserved BIG! Nice work, keep up the great RP and all-around good play.
01/12/08
Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: A highly entertaining rendition of the cleric, as ever, with Gareth “taking the bit between his teeth“ providing even more opportunities for expression. At the same time providing a strong steer for the group, from what is a sub-ordinate roll, by strength of character alone. He wanted to do something and stuck to it, thus getting the group on track to achieving something. Thank the gods that no nonsense attitude of his has reached a turning point. BiG
01/07/08
Vasily Kasprjak : Ahh, our very slightly exotic friend strikes again. As ever a superb showing from SA, he never puts a foot wrong IC and his talent for sifting plot was as useful as ever. The revelation of a considerate side to Vasily, and the subtle reversal of opinion when his suggestion was twisted into one where a person might die, being key character hints this time. Loved every minute, but then I always do. :D
12/31/07
Comments in reference to the character Vasily Kasprjak a : At the risk of copping out please see the comments of the reviewer below and apply them here as well. Very well done.
12/31/07
Vasily Kasprjak a human: A mild and quiet fellow, politely interjecting with contributions rather than forcing them into the outspoken crowd. Excellent depiction of the character in an understated fashion. The accent made me smile, set at just the right level to give the impression of being foreign without over emphasising it. This perfection in character delivery is something, I admit, I‘ve come to expect from SA, yet it still stood out amongst an excellent cast. However, it‘s for drawing attention to I think the most important piece of information we looked at, and moving the investigation a leap forward as a result, that I‘m giving BiG. Great RPer and also a damned inciteful player.

[Smart Alec's reply to comment: I hope that was supposed to be 'insightful'. :D

]

12/30/07
Original and effective, is how I would describe Smart Alec‘s creation in Vasily Kasprjak. The non-native-English-speaker dialect you adopted for him was perfect, adding that individual touch to the character that made him stand out, without sacrificing any of his practical aptitude in solving the KILLER case. I greatly look forward to seeing Vasily contribute towards solving the case. Great stuff, as always.
12/16/07
Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: The pace always seems to pick up when Gareth is in the group. The impatience of the Warpriest of Tempus always moves the group along, and the incitefulness of the player opens up new directions for the group to take. Damn solid play again as a cleric too. After long aquaintance, it remains a delight to be in a party with Smart Alec.
12/04/07
Comments in reference to the character 2nd. Lt Joe ‘Sunny‘ Abnett a Human: Great leader. He really keeps us together. Enough latitude to express our ideas; but, enough organization skills to keep us glued together and safe in this crazy unsafe world.
11/11/07
Comments in reference to the character Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: Good interpretation of events, also Gareth is looking for the proper time to split the lot, which brings more realism to the game. His interaction with the kidnapped boy, though harsh, was excellent, making Gareth believable all the time. I think it was mostly his support what helped the boy to stay in one peace, more than spells and the fighting around him, especially after such a traumatic situation.
10/27/07
Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: [Smart_Alec] Gareth-of-the-Axe : [Party] So, be sure to leave comments after the game, folks! Smart_Alec: Great player, detestable human being. So I did, you deserve nothing less. ;)
10/21/07
Comments in reference to the character Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: Excellent game, I like the way Gareth is developing his personality, looking far away into the plot. I think he is becoming one of the brains of the group, a visionary that might find new answers to old problems.

Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: On from again as blunt and very direct and the ideal choice to send to get Zabrina. If having the great big, hairy cleric‘s presence wasn‘t enough to chill anyone‘s ardour, the no-nonsense approach surely would be. The ascerbic comments are always well placed, promoting RP as well adding entertainment value. Gareth is a star, and I HAVE seen his wizards.

Comments in reference to the character Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: As usual always a pleasure; you have developed a skill to create acid characters that brings to the party intelligence but at the same harsh time a point of view.

Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: Love him. A big, bluff, no nonsense, cut-the-waffle-and-get-on-with-it, larger than life character who still managed to keep the party on their feet and fighting. Tempus would be proud.

Comments in reference to the character 2nd. Lt Joe ‘Sunny‘ Abnett a Human: Great job leading this squad. I‘ve enjoyed gaming with you for quite some time now. Figured I owed you a review. I‘ll try and send you a few reviews every now and then. I really enjoy how you use code words, like “Bad Boys“ to indicate the automatic weapons instead of the native weapons of their world. Lots of other IC jargon too give it that military RP feel to it. Also, you have that authority position down pretty well, and a nice mix of the naivite with it. Also, I like the “Total War“ concept as I mentioned in the forums and look forward to seeing you implement it. - Jenniza

[Smart Alec's reply to comment: In a sense, we already are, by assassinating a key figure in the enemy's leadership and stealing their gold - the basic idea behind Total War is to wage war with the objective of destroying another nation's ability to wage war, preferably while preserving as many of our own resources as possible. Hoo-ah!

Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne a Human: By now I don‘t expect anything less than a well played character, but then I‘m never disappointed. A nice combination of eager but slightly inexperienced, with an understated sense of knowing more than he is letting on. Always funny even while playing it straight! As ever well handled as a wizard but this time using those skills to prop up the healing needs of the group, using invisibility and kits at need to sub for a cleric. Don‘t ever think I‘ve given BIG for anything other than RP before but for keeping us on our feet it gets it this time.

Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: Really beginning to come out as a loud and straight forward character. Important things, unimportant things, and nothing in the middle it seems. Still not quite sure what falls into each category but it‘ll be fun finding out. Fine job as a healer and with pushing the group onward. Great performance as always.
09/14/07
Comments in reference to the character Borri Azrifarn a Dwarf: Well played, Borri! We were glad for having your combat skills, whether against insects that were just too darned big or against crazy Malarite witches. Excellent job!
09/09/07
Torgoch Ghost-Eye an Orc: I‘ve got used to great performances from this player but this was an outstanding interpretation of a tribal shaman. The warding off of ill spirits, interpretation of events as a spiritual leader, attending the dead, stick shaking and bone rattling, all good! Cooperative RP picking up on others contributions and bringing them to the fore, and providing ammunition for others to do the same. Fine play as a healer too, keeping everyone alive. This was an all star cast and it was never so hard to choose a BIG, but .. Torgoch One-Eye: *looks at the runes on the door, and hisses* Veskarra Traphand: It not protected. Torgoch One-Eye: So you say. *takes a goblin ear out of his pouch, bites into it, and spits the chunk out at the door* NOW it not protected. just swung it!
09/09/07
Comments in reference to the character Torgoch Ghost-Eye a Orc: It was great playing alongside Smart Alec instead of DMing; in fact, it only confirms my thoughts that you are one of the best roleplayers I‘ve met in a good long time. One-Eye was a great character to have in the game, providing an excellent addition to the overall RP. I particularly enjoyed his signature move of rattling his staff. Now I look forward with even greater expectations to both MotD, and hopefully to Shadani‘s campaign (which a little bird tells me you may be coDMing in!). Fantastic stuff, as always. :) -- VS
09/08/07
Torgoch Ghost-Eye an Orc: Torgoch saved several members of the party on more than one occasion. Happy to have his One-Eyed spirit-seer along for the adventure! :) Excellent RP!
09/08/07
Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: A dedicated follower of Tempus begins to emerge, with the flares of impatience you‘d expect. The campfire exchange was amusing but it was the “can we just get on with it“ and “more action, less angst“ attitude throughout that swung the BIG.

Comments in reference to the character Gareth-of-the-Axe a Human: Difficult to learn too much in this initial session, or for any PC to stand out, so BIG was a hard but as ever a definate candidate. Well played as a larger than life character, brusque and outspoken, but pleasant natured with it. Couldn‘t help but think of Brian Blessed. Very close on BIG but missed out by the teeniest of margins.
08/14/07
Comments in reference to the character Edwin Blake a Human: A promising beginning! The BIG decision was tough, as it should be in such a fine group of role-players, but I also was swayed by the delightful talk with Keavy. “Once upon a time ...“
08/13/07
Comments in reference to the character Edwin Blake a Human: A good introduction of this character
08/13/07
Comments in reference to the character Edwin Blake a Human: Edwin was both arkward and sarcastic. He seemed uncertain about what to say to the others in the crew, and you played this shyness very well. Since it was only the first sesion I don‘t have much else to say, but I look forward to seeing this character develops as the campaign progresses. I‘m also giving you the BIG for this week.
08/12/07
Fine play. Nice to see the role of the doctor RPed as interested in the well being of their fellows, recognising the dangers of certain tasks and keen to do their job. Difficult to separate 3 players for BIG but ... Keavy Liang: so, what‘s your story? Edwin Blake: Well, once upon a time there were three little elves... .. swung it in the final stretch.

Kato Akiko -- Cloud 9 stuff, keeping everyone alive as long as you did. Good to have a proper cleric who performs her role par excellence, not to mention her archery. The great RP and dialogue also help a little ;) Cheers -- AV
06/17/07
Once again, some great solid roleplaying from Akiko. There was some marvellous moments this evening in the RP department - especially with the foil of Azura to play off of. I truly look forward to the future of this character. Awesome stuff!

06/05/07
Comments in reference to the character Kato Akiko a Human: Akiko, it seems to me, is fastly becoming the one character that keeps the group lively. I get a feeling that without her, the chances us of going at each other‘s throats would suddenly rise greatly.
06/05/07
Kato Akiko -- Dislike stooping to cliches but Akiko‘s cute as a button! Her childish innocence always brings a smile to my face. SmartAlec‘s done a great job of transporting the expressions and mannerisms of an anime character into this medium without falling prey to stereotyping. Cheers -- AV

Akiko Kato -- This is the first time I‘ve played with Smart Alec and his portrayal of Akiko was exquisite. The emotes, the nervousness of a first-time adventurer, the changes in speech tone.. Signs of a consumate roleplayer and a well-deserved BiG this session. Cheers -- AV
05/27/07
Akiko stood out for me as the best character this session. Her dialogue and presentation were spot-on, and her reactions to the various situations were equally brilliant. I very much look forward to what this character/player will bring to the campaign in the future. Cheers for a great game - you get my BiG without a doubt.
05/27/07
Played nicely - created an interesting character and reacted believabley and creatively. Seemed to have a fair whack of the limelight - however, I don‘t believe an overly excessive amount. Thumbs up.

[Smart Alec's reply to comment: A very 'spiritual' episode, with dark forces involved and a shadow-demon and wounded people at the end of it, so it's no wonder the Priestess came to the fore. As other situations arise - social/arcane/survival/military - I daresay the 'screen time' will be more even in the end. :) - SA

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Splendid Role-Play as always. You can really see that the player enjoys this character a great deal from the way that Urs is played. One of the elements of the group that really makes the whole thing work.
04/06/07
With no captain and the second mate shoved into the position of leader we got to see a different side of Col. The leader came out a lot more, a definate case of being the one in charge despite deferences to the willingness of the crew to go along with what he intended at the potentially dangerous points. Col in charge, in particular given the last minute need to take it on, definately got the BIG.

Comments in reference to the character Col (Lincoln) Gage a Human: A little more of the character came out this session in the responses to the way the bonded servants were being treated. Plus top marks for observation in spotting the missing ones. One of two contenders for BIG, and again a hard choice between them. The one-liners are still there, as is the quality of RP, but the way the Captain ran with the plot has to get the vote.
02/16/07
Comments in reference to the character Col (Lincoln) Gage a Human: The character is consistantly and effectively played within their role in the crew. Obviously capable of being a strong authoritarian but with a humorous side to temper that. There were three strong contenders for BIG, and a difficult choice between them with regard to quality of RP, but in the end the one-liners swung it in Col‘s favour.

02/09/07
Comments in reference to the character Col (Lincoln) Gage a Human: The group split up in a way which required the party back at the ship to be very inventive and in effect create their own RP. Col was very much the driver behind the situational RP that happened back at the ship which kept things moving their despite being divorced from the main plot line. With the captain not around character took charge and began to show more of that side of his nature. His concern for the smooth running of the ship revealed itself quite nicely.

The perfect player and character to have in a party- great use of realms references- some silliness this time, but it worked. 01/18/07
Comments in reference to the character Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne a Human: You know, it‘s struck me that out of all the mage-type characters I‘ve encountered in the past, Will is perhaps the most prone to fear I‘ll ever meet.:)

Comments in reference to the character Wayland ‘Will‘ Toyne a Human: (Add Comments Here). An exemplary session by a classic character ripped from a Realms novel the contemplative practical mage, a calming influence on the Rdiers of the Storm. Use of Realms references fantastic and much appreciated, adding color and enhancing context for the dms and other players...

[Smart Alec's reply to comment: I assume you mean that 'Will' would fit well in a Realms novel, rather than being copied from one - I confess, I haven't come across a Wayland Toyne in any Realms book I've read. :)

Comments in reference to the character Ladwin Sparcer a Human: It seems Ladwin always has some calculation to make either mathematically or inside his own wisdom. It must be difficult deciding what would be reasonable to spend from the duchy‘s coffers for the various matters the council must adress, so I really don‘t envy the Treasurer‘s position, though I admire his dedication. This it seems will be an important character in this campaign since besides his obvious duties it seems he is quick to bring suggestions to the council most of the time. I‘m really curious to see what will happen from now as I find it hard to believe that Mr. Sparcer doesn‘t have his own personal goals. Great game!

Comments in reference to the character Ladwin Sparcer a Human: I really love your character, the bean counter and Official Treasurer of the Duchy. It is obvious that Ladwin relishes his job and does it to the best of his ability. There is a slight obtuseness, it seems to him that I can‘t tell if it‘s feigned or real. :) But there is no mistaking his intelligence in the ideas he contributes and the counter arguments he provides.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human:Urs! You‘re giving me odd ideas now. Do you actually Like Terrany now? Hehe, Bones might get the idea into his head that you do. Another great session.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: How Urs puts up with Reg and Terry‘s little escapades I‘ll never know.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Ugh... This relationship is gonna get tough, I don‘t know how Terrany is gonna act around anyone in the house... Oh joy, I feel like I‘m in a reality TV show :P Awesome job!
08/02/05
Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Urs takes on the role as the groups de-facto leader well. Perhaps the most rounded character in the group, she manages to be both a viscous fighter, and the group healer (although I don‘t think I would trust taking a potion from her).
08/02/05
Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Amateur harpy hunter. It was just plain fun to see her reaction to every situation, as always.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: (Add Comments Here) When Chaos seems to be the name of the game, we turn to Ursula for guidance. Well this time she could not prevent the other girls in the group (harpies) to kill each other not to mention almost beat Terrany to death. Well it is obvious enough that she likes to be the only girl in the group. Yet this time, she was trying to handle some domestic problems (who messed up that zoo?) and bring that half-woman back alive. Er... did we say alive?
08/01/05
Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: (Add Comments Here)Poor Ursula, she‘s trying to keep them from being kicked out thanks to the more chaotic members of the group. She‘s going to end up with a few gray hairs soon.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Urs really has a thing for trying to piss of Dreugh. Not sure why, maybe because her dominace is threated? heh,Better keep Terrany in check or he‘ll end up dead.

[Smart Alec's reply to comment: Naaaah... she does that with everyone if she gets a chance. *muaha*

Comments in reference to the character Ladwin Sparcer a Human: Quite intriguing in that at first glance he seems to be the most level-headed of the counselors. It does beg one to wonder if he has his own agenda. Contributed with many intelligent ideas in the debate and for that so far this one has managed to stay on my character‘s good side, but a lot will happen down the road I‘m sure. Looking forward to next time!

Comments in reference to the character Ladwin Sparcer a Human: (Add Comments Here) I think Ladwin is an excellent character. He contributes well to the decisions made in the campaign. He came up with many good ideas and valid points. Not sure yet if he can be trusted with the duchy‘s funds but we will see. In a room full of excellent roleplayers I had him as BiG.
07/31/05
Comments in reference to the character Ladwin Sparcer a Human: The level head of Ladwin is going to be crucial to the Duchy of Hornshaw. The various personalities in the employ of the Duchess have their own agendas, but Ladwin is governed by the almighty common sense. Great character. Moss Troll

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Ursula‘s major movitation in this session seemed to be getting in good terms with yet another faction. Stayed a bit back on the action from everything I could see, but it‘s unthinkable to have her gone from the party at this point.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: I can guess that life isn‘t so fabulous on the other end of the resurrection rod. Damn wererats. ^_^ As always, wonderfully played.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: An outstanding session, as usual for this player. Urs‘ character is well played, consistent in her overall goals, and fun to be around (so long as you keep one eye on her and one hand on your sword). Very well done.
07/18/05
Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Urs already has ideas going through her head. I don‘t like that in the least. It scares me even. Hah, should make for some fun roleplay.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: The holy crusade brought out the best of Urs! And since Terrany won‘t say it much... Thanks for all the potions and making sure we stayed alive... :)

[Smart Alec's reply to comment: Can't have Urs's 'minions' dying on her.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Ursula shined this session, slaughtering unbelievers and destroying heathen temples and whatnoth. All while remaining fashionably evil.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: (Add Comments Here)My favorite moment is when a stranger says his looking for Irenic and she points at him and says ‘the guy in the robes‘, lol

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Delightfully creepy, as always. The scene in the temple was enough to send shivers up and down my spine. I wonder what will happen if the group ever truly displeases this maiden.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Heh, Try to convert me will you?! Heh Urs is a perfect religious type. Even if we don‘t get along she‘s a great character. Great job.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Good as always. Memorable moment; Ursula giddy as a schoolgirl upon recieving a mission from the temple of Set. The thought came to me that one CAN be playfully evil after all...

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Ursula getting her chance to shine again - I love her absolute glee at the opportunity to smite some non-Setites.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Solidly played as always. Ursula definately has mader her mark on the group and her strong personality makes her a unique character. Very well done.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Ursula spent mist of the gae in a gown insted of armor this time, which was quite a suprise. altho bloodthirsty and sometimes crude she knows when to dress up for the occasion.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: (Add Comments Here)I‘m giving her a BIG for the simple reason of being first to protest Sirin‘s freeing of the Celestial Hound. I was afraid the ‘evil‘ players would just go with what Sirin did. But Ursula reminded them what their motivation was and showed a evil, black heart just like they all should have heh. Boomer

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: A dangerous woman, perhaps even psychotic, and definately well played. Her first session tenderness (ala a couple of ‘raises‘ for the group) has been completely dispelled by her comments and actions since then. At least so long as she is allied with us she is where we can see her...mostly. Very well played.

[Smart Alec's reply to comment: The power of life and death is a big advantage alright when it comes to the group suck-up stakes. You want to be mean to Ursula? Fair enough. But don't expect her to get out of bed if you... cease to be.

*muahahahahaaaa*

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: she seems quite estatic about her new home, it‘s questionable where she lived before this. It‘ll be fun to see how she does up her room, wonder what kind of toture devices she has in mind.
06/03/05
Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Excellent playing as always! The campaign most certainly wouldn‘t be the same without Ursula. :p Hm... I wonder exactly why she seems so very eager to attend Court, though...

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: it seems there‘s something developing between Kvet and ursula, altho i‘m not sure if it‘s a relationship or a plot. we‘ll have to see just what those two have planned.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Ursula is probely the character that stands out the most in this group, her ruthlessness and ferocity sare played very well. Evil to the core.

05/06/05
Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: (Add Comments Here)Again my BIG for the game Ursula is by far one of my favorite characters in the game. The whole cloning deal was hilarious and her drinking the wine afterwards was just truly evil. The DMS got a huge kick out of that. She certainly showed her evil side then and later on, and the double cross talk was interesting as well. I was hoping characters would start playing more to their evil side and Ursula delivered that more so than the other characters. Good show.

[Smart Alec's reply to comment: Reading the whole log over again, I realise that that little episode started with Ursula trying to get a drink from Jeff the Walking Dead bartender and failing, which makes it only more fitting she ended up with some wine at the end of it. Set's blessings? Could be.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: The RP when reflect cloned Ursula was priceless, i ws struggeling to read what the two of yo uwere saying while trying to keep my own conversations going. It was intresting how you slipped in information about yourself as well. You got my BIG for this session hands down, very well done.

[Smart Alec's reply to comment: Though as one might expect, not everything someone like Ursula tells of herself is necessarily true...

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Great roleplaying in pretty much every situation, great reactions to everything that was thrown at us. Ursula herself is proving to be an interesting character, and I look foward to seeing her develop more.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: (Add Comments Here)Giving you my BIG. I loved the way you played Ursula. I got the sense that she knew enough about herself to know she currently has limitations. She has a sense of confidence, but also a sense of unsureness..something I find refreshing in a new character, when others would try to play their characters well above their current level. Well done and well played. I look forward to seeing this character develop more.
04/29/05
Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: Very well played character. She did a great job of getting the group organized and moving (more or less) in the same direction. It will be interesting to get to know this character more as time goes on.

Comments in reference to the character Ursula Noir-Corbeau a Human: took the role of a makeshift leader for some parts of the game, altho the group hasn‘t really formed together yet and we seem to be comeing apart at the coners. Well that will take time i suppose, keep up the good RP.

Comments in reference to the character Brandon a Human: (Add Comments Here) Bradon was very believable as a wizard freshly out of Arcane college. He kept telling us about classmates etcetera, which really made him look as green as grass :) he got trown into the part of the groups leader against his will, but handled it very well. His Bat familiar provided comic relief with a hilarious Transsilvanian accent. A very well rounded character that I‘m looking for ward to seeing again.
