“Tad” meaning two in the language of the elves, his parents thought it would be appropriate for their only child. Being a child of two bloods.
His parents, his father was and still is a mighty protector of the elven homeland. His mother was a strong willed druid who lived in the forests outside of the elven homeland.
Maybe it was chance that brought the two of them together on that frozen winters day so many years ago. You see, Tad’s father was on patrol in the lands outlying his forest kingdom when he came across the tracks of a wandering band of Orcs, though they seemed to be heading out of the region, he decided to follow them and make sure of it. Tad would not be here this day, and many lives would have changed, if his father hadn’t chosen to trail the creatures. After three days of making cold camps and fighting the frozen wind every step, Tad’s father was sure now that these Orc’s were leaving the area in search of easier prey. Just as he was about to turn back, the faint smells of wood smoke reached his nose. He followed it to its source, that being an unfinished rock and timber cabin on fire and it’s owner a young human woman being attacked by the Orcs. To make a long story short, Tad’s father beat off the Orcs, but not without serious wounds to himself, the young woman, a druid trying to make a life for herself, took him in and cared for him all that long cold winter. And as the story goes, the two fell in love, married and Tad was the result of that love.
They had a happy life together in their rock and log cabin. Tad’s father would go out on patrols for days at a time, keeping the area free and protected. And his mother would tend to her herb garden and the animals in the region, keeping the land in its proper balance.
So of Tad’s happiest memories are of the three of them laying on the grass near his mother’s rose bush staring up at the evening sky. The feel of the grass between his toes and the smell of roses in the air, created memories that will stay with him a lifetime.
As will all good things, they never last. It started when Tad was a young man, just starting to learn the way of the ranger. He could see the pain in his parent’s eyes as his mother grew older with each passing winter while his father was the same as the day the two first met. Soon Tad’s father started making longer and longer patrols and staying less between each time, Tad knew his parents still loved each other very deeply, but it just hurt them too much to be together.
Two years ago Tad’s mother finally died, after a long and happy life. His mother’s death was too much for Tad’s father to take, he couldn’t even stay while Tad buried her beside her beloved rose bush and closed up their home.
Since that day, Tad was been living the life taught to him by his father and mother, trying to protect those in need while keeping in balance with nature and it’s creatures.
