Edwin grew up as the youngest son on a farm. He toiled at feeding stock, cleaning barns, mending fence and so on. He longed for escape. So when a call came for militia to invade the orc lands, Edwin joined. The small army advanced into the orc lands and saw nothing. Then they were hit at dawn in camp. The men ran to their lines and as the orcs attacked with frenzied bravery. The militia fought with desperate courage and eventually repulsed the charge. Edwin took a serious wound and was mustered out.
