When Tarn was of age, he signed on with the Closed Fist, the company dedicated to protecting the Open Palm's caravans and other assets; his father, although not entirely approving, still helped him secure the position, with the proviso that Tarn be fully trained in the art of war before assuming his full duties. Tarn fulfilled his training and has accompanied two caravans on their travels. However, Tarn's one-year contract is now up and he is uncertain if he wishes to renew it, since although he enjoys travel, caravan duty is somewhat dull.

Tarn uses a single-weapon/no-shield fighting style and detests heavy armor. He also is proficient with a crossbow and often attempts to tinker with it to improve design and performance. Although the gods are not an important part of his life, he counts himself as a follower of Cyrebin, while maintaining a healthy respect for nature's grace and beauty under Mikade.
