Blackhawk
Character Portrait: Blackhawk, ranger and scout (rogue) Blackhawk is nervous around people. Anything more than three or four makes him jittery, and he finds it impossible to relax in even the smallest village. He has lived all of his 143 years in the wild, sleeping in trees, catching rabbits and stoats in his snares, bringing down the occasional deer or boar when smaller game is scarce. All of his equipment, with the exception of his sword, he has made himself, from his strong yew longbow and razor-sharp flint-headed arrows to his bristly boar-skin breeks and jerkin. Village folk rarely see more than that. To them, Blackhawk is a shadow moving along the edges of their hunting grounds and isolated farmsteads, rarely seen except when the community is threated by wild beasts, orcs, or worse. Some fear him for his strange ways, but the village elders know that his constant vigilance in the nearby hills and valleys, as often by night as by day, is one of the reasons their community has so fare escaped notice from the many dangers of the wilds. Blackhawk's name comes from his habit of speaking with birds, often birds of prey, and using them both as scouts and messengers. Timely warnings from hawk or owl, swallow or wren have allowed Blackhawk to be in the right place when an orc patrol draws too near the village, and to ensure that none escape to alert their masters.
