As the second son in the wealthy merchant De Bonito family, Alatello was raised to be a mage. His parents apprenticed him to a prominent wizard at the earliest possible age, and the boy’s skills developed quickly. However, while Alatello found spellcraft to be interesting and magic came quickly to him, it was not his love. Captivated by the minstrels he had heard perform, Alatello longed to become a bard. He daydreamed of charming audiences of fair maidens with flowerly tales of adventure & chivalry, or of stirring the hearts of kings with ballads of heroism & valor. He even possessed some talent for rhyme. Unfortunately, Alatello’s dream would never be realized, for he had a horrible singing voice. His few attempts to serenade audiences resulted in his being booed off stage and pelted with rotten vegetables. Undaunted, the young wizard packed up his spellbook and his battered mandolin and set out to find the greatest adventure of all.
