Janice Lightfingers

Janice grew up in a halfling neighborhood of Gradsul, a large city in the nation of Keoland. With her short attention span but quick wit and talent, she found herself far too curious for a citydweller. Her parents always worried that one day she would get herself into too much trouble - and one day she did.

When Janice was almost ready to leave her parents' home, she learned about a secretive group in town - a group of scholars of some sort, extremely reclusive in nature. She heard something about Silent Ones, and, not to accept silence from such an interesting group, took it upon herself to sneak into the group's headquarters in Gradsul.

The result was predictable - such a group of mages was not to be easily infiltrated even by so skillful a young lightfoot halfling. Janice escaped the place one step ahead of the lightning bolts and darker spells.

Before she returned home, she was accosted by a man named Tarlach. He seemed to be a mage himself, all robes and strange smells and such. Tarlach questioned her at length about her visit to the home of the Silent Ones, and then locked her away in his innroom before leaving on his own business.

Janice escaped the place - Tarlach had not wizard-locked the window - and said her goodbyes to her parents before fleeing the city.

On the road, with nowhere in mind, she was ambushed by a most strange band of halflings. The group, calling itself Hesselwhite and Company, tried to recruit her into their brigand group! Janice saw the cruelty in their eyes, however, and the hatred they felt for larger folk, so she refused - and fled them as well.

She was intrigued, however, by the fact that both the brigands AND the strange man Tarlach had mentioned heading for a land known as Gloomveil. Janice asked a lot of questions at countryside inns, and found a ride to Gloomveil. A group of villagers paid for her to leave, just so she’d stop asking her incessant questions.

Janice begins the game having made her way to the Gloomveil, to seek out what the brigands and the mage were heading for. After all, if two such interesting groups were going there, Janice was sure she could find SOMETHING interesting to do...

Gloomveil was a secret project that the Silent Ones were building... it was a weapon to trap people in a pocket dimension... forever, leaving their lands to be conquered without a fight. It was the ultimate weapon. Janice had discovered their plans and not only that; but, she found flaws in it, and managed to work to free the people of Gloomveil and then fled from world to world since then... landing in Annakolia as her latest stop. Janice is terrified that the Silent Ones might find her and try to get the plans back from Janice, or worse, the solution to how to plug the flaws. Janice's mind had been preoccupied with the flaws in the plans and managed to find a solution to them. If the Silent Ones got a hold of this information... or anyone for that matter, it could be the ultimate weapon.

Janice has tried to settle down on a few worlds a couple of times, she even got married and had a baby daughter once; but after a couple of years, the Silent Ones caught up to her again and she had to flee that world... hoping to return again one day.

In the time that Janice has settled down in Annakolia, she has made many friends and helped a lot of people. In recognition for this, the King of Annakolia has knighted Janice and some of her friends.

Janice and Lyly have since moved on to other lands. They now have a home they inherited from Janice's late uncle Albert Lightfighter, who ran a bakery and confectionary alongside his hobbit hole in the Shire, north of Caer Mawr. Lyly goes to school there and Janice can often be found in the city as she has someone else look after the shop, after Janice and Lyly bake the cookies in the morning.
