This young halfling woman looks distracted. Her attention seems to be elsewhere. Frequently, one can see her with her nose in a book. She carries a heavy pack. Her eyes sparkle at the mention of magic and wonder.
Background: Ginger showed an unseemly interest in book learning. As a young halfling, she embarrassed her family by spending hours reading and talking to big folk about wizardry in the Dancing Cat Inn.
"Ginger, git yer nose out of that book and stop moping about!" Her mother said. "It taint right. Makes folks uncomfy."
True enough. Ginger learned her parents' baking trade, helped with the business, and went to all the Shire celebrations. Yet, no one seemed to understand her love of learning, books, and scrolls. Ginger found herself a misfit among the halflings of Hobbitborough. With no friends, she learned to entertain herself. Books in hand, she spent hours walking halfling country.
In her talks with tall strangers from afar, she heard of wonders in the wider world. When she learned of a school near the city of Annakol she made up her mind to go. Her parents did not object. In fact, they seemed relieved.
With a backpack full of books, fresh bread, and her family's blessing, she found herself on the road to her dream come true.
