Laf'avel
Laf'avel Ari'keth (Moonblade Silberwind) was born in one of the numerous elven tribes in the Wolfswood Forrest. His tribe is part of a rich tribal exchange system of elven tribes in the Wolfswood. The tribes have usually 5d6+5 members and are always on the move, although they rarely leave the Wolfswood. Their nomadic movement is limited by the borders of the wood, yet the tribes change camp very often. It happenes though once in a while that one of the elves seeks further information or knowledge and therefore leaves the tribes and their secretive way of living. The above mentioned exchange system is the vital element among the organiszation of these tribes. Once every month the tribes gather at a sacred place only known to the elders of the tribes. The members are lead there deprived of sight. Every tribe sepcializes in the crafting of certain goods. Yet these gatherings serve not only the purpose of exchanging goods among the tribes, but also to socialize and eventually even lead to marriages among members from different tribes. Once the tribes get to the sacred place, the men are to protect the exchange. Only fully accepted adult members are allowed to participate in this sacred ritual. The women of the tribes now start in complete silence (i.e. without speaking at all) to present their wares. Every tribe offers his goods and the women bargain as long as necessary to achieve complete satisfaction with every tribe. Once everybody is content with the trade there will be a feast to complete it. The complex variation of offering and taking within the trade ritual can take up to three full days. This ritual is among the elves widely known as the "Silent Trade". The feast after the trade is the only chance for the elves of the Wolfswood to get to know other tribe's members. Marriages are always outside of clan heritages. I.e. there are never marriages within one clan.
Laf'avel was educated in the laws of nature and how to interact with it. His tribes crafting specialization are bow crafting and alchemy. Son of one of the elders himself he went through a hard and thorough education. Soon he learned to live with the nature and even use it to his own purposes (yet in a limited way). Also he was given a young wolf into custody. From him he could learn hunting techniques and the wolf could learn about survivng in the nature from Laf'avel. In Laf'avel's tribe it is common for the elves to plant an oak for every 20 years in the life of an elf. Usually it's planted by the parents of the elf, but given into custody to the elf himself when he reaches a certain age. After 120 years there aren't planted any more oaks. During this time the elf has to check on his trees everyday and speak a short prayer to Kallinyryn to ensure the fast growth of the oaks. After 120 years the tribe member has to chop down one of these oaks every 20 years, starting with the youngest. The wood is used for bows and long spears, i.e. for martial weapons in general. After another 120 years the oldest oak, now 240 years, the same age as its "owner", is chopped down. The symbollic meaning is to gain the knowledge these oaks collected throughout the years and achieve a full knowledge of nature and life in general. After an elf chopped down the last oak he is accepted to the council of elders. For important decisions there is the council of the eldest, only 10 members are allowed in it, elected by the elder council.
Laf'avel himself was used to the way of a nomadic life limited to the boundarys of the Wolfswood. He used to streak thorugh the woods with Lanyil -his companion - often, for pleasure and to imrpove his knowledge of nature. One day he accidentally ran into a wood elf, living in the very same woods. Something changed inside both of them, eventhough they didn't talk, they surely felt attracted to each other in a latent way. From now on they used to streak through the woods often together and they swore each other their love. Eventhough it was very uncommon and widely unaccepted among their respective societies. But then one day Laf'avel's beloved took care of his wolf Lanyil and as she followed a trail accidentally ran into a "silent trade" ritual. Interrupted in their most sacred gathering the elven men took up their weapons to deal with the intruder. Laf'avel stepped up and addressed the men. The most sacred ritual was broken, since the use of words was completely forbidden. Laf'avel's tribe was therefore secluded from the exchange system and the wood elf was cast into exile -she had no choice: Leave Wolfswood right then or be hunted down and killed. Laf'avel had yet to undergo a severe trial and was condemned to share the faith of his tribe: isolation. Laf'avel was unwilling to bend himself of the now harsh-seeming ways of his own tribe and left Wolfswood, not only to restore the honor of his own tribe, but also to find the love of his life: Serianna.
