If you were to ask Lysandra about her life, she'd either tell you its none of your business or that she never had a family. At the age of 10 she was caught up in a circumstance that forced her father to sell her to pay off a debt. The man who bought her was a middle aged con-artist named Gregory. He considered her his greatest prize and took it upon himself to make her into his student. With nowhere else to go and no other means to survive, Lysandra reluctantly accepted it.
Cheating at cards, deception, prostitution, stealing, talking your way out of a prison cell, sneaking out if the former didn't work...all of these were revealed to the young girl. She watched and learned from Gregory at his best and his worst. The two of them swindled hundreds of people. However, Gregory was always at the forefront. He would claim 90% of all their income and leave the other 10% for Lysandra. Eventually, she grew tired of being used. She asked him if he they could make a wager, "A game of cards. if I win, I'm free from the agreement my worthless moron of a father made. If you win, I'll give up my 10% for the next ten years." Gregory laughed at her proclaimation but accepted it. Oddly enough, she didn't play him that day. It wouldn't be until she turned 18 that she reminded him of the wager.
Lysandra had chosen to wait on purpose. She wanted Gregory to underestimate her and in the beginning, he did. Although the wager remained a secret between them, they played their game in a public tavern. Humiliation was another punishment for the loser. Once Gregory realized he was losing, he used every cheating trick he ever learned. Lysandra surprised him yet again with a response to each of them. She had been studying him all this time and perfecting her counters. In the end, she barely managed to beat her former master.
Despite their parting of ways, Gregory still feels that Lysandra is rightfully his. However, it seems unlikely that Lysandra would willingly become his 'partner' again. Although he would never wish to see her killed or injured, he would relish the opportunity to bruise her ego.
