Winter Lightwill is a 20-year-old Aasimarian Cleric of Lathander (official title: Dawnbringer, making him a Full Priest), hailing from the town of Archenbridge, in the Archendale region of the Dalelands, northern Faerun.
He is 6'4, with green eyes (that will change to gold at sporadic moments), medium length wiry hair (small streaks of silver embedded throughout) and gold skin. He appears as a athletic, handsome looking man, and is normally seen walking around town in robes of dawn-color (Yellow and Orange), but frequently changes his attire to match the task that is at hand. His physical attributes clearly mark him as a Aasimar to those who know anything about the race; if your character has never seen or heard about one, likely that he/she will not recognize the difference, but should question the irregularity of this character.
Winter was raised in Archenbridge as far back as he can remember. He was brought up as an orphan in the local Church of Lathander by the head cleric, Morninglord Godric Peverell.
He named him Winter when the town suffered one of the worst storms in the Dalelands' history upon his arrival - and a unexplainable phenomenon occurred; a magical essence that flowed through the air during one of the nastiest phases of the storm caught into Winter's hair, and turned strands of his normally dark brown hair a silvery color. No one has been able to explain what caused this event to occur. He was told that the only bit of information brought in about his past was that his last name was indeed Lightwill, and he was the son of two paladins of Lathander who were slain in a recent battle.
Godric took baby Winter and a few other young children under his wing. He gave these six children (all babies of slain soldiers and civilians) not only a place to stay and food to eat up until their 18th birthday, but also gave them the gift of education and the teachings of the Morninglord.
These children treated each other as brother and sister - there being four boys and two girls in the group. All children, save one, embraced Godric Peverell and the teachings he provided throughout their lives - and have grown far surpassing the knowledge and discipline that most have at the age.
One did not. Tristan Shadowmere, a most unfortunate child. He frequently denied the ideas and teachings, and not having any choice, did the bare requirements that were needed to be able to be accepted by Godric, the church, and his peers, knowing a wrong move could get him sent away.
Winter had consoled him but could never seem to figure out what the problem was. Once he turned 18, he immediately bolted out the city gates and never looked back. An inspection of some scrolls and textbooks that he found in his old room showed signs of evil practice (glyphs found on the floor) of low-level magic - nothing that the High Cleric would have allowed when he lived with the Church.
The other 5 children had all grown up to become successful contributors to Archenbridge. Three of the children, two men and a woman, all enlisted into the Archendale Militia at the age of 16, and by the age of 18 held valuable positions as Paladins of Lathander. The Archendale is well known throughout the Dalelands as the most prevalent military force. They remain to this day to fight for the glory of Lathander, working on mostly rebuilding missions - traveling to areas of extreme bloodshed and helping to rebuild destroyed cities and villages.
The other female, Dawnbringer Alessia Clearwater, along with Winter, decided to remain closer to their roots with the Church. At the promising age of 18, they both took exams and extra lessons with Morninglord Peverell to take a rite as fully priested Clerics of Lathander. While they had both taken the last two years to stay in Archenbridge to assist the church in its everyday needs and the occasional jobs around town, it was decided that Alessia would take an oath to be the one to stay and take over after Godric's death, as Clerics who resign from their position are extremely rare and only occur if some uncontrollable or supernatural reason prevents them from standing in their position.
In the past three months, Godric has become extremely ill, mostly due to the effects of old age - being 92. He spends most of his days in his room, reading books and scrolls to further extend his wisdom. One evening, he calls Winter in to discuss urgent matters with him. It is here that Godric unravels pieces of Winter's past - the facts about being an orphan - explaining that he is indeed an Aasimar, which Winter already had picked up from his own studies - but also the mysterious disappearance of his brother. He tells Winter that he and Tristan were the only two babies brought to him that had true last names - but in his studies he could not find information about either the Lightwill or Shadowmere families; seemingly lost in the archives. But the Cleric also had a vision just a fortnight before this meeting of Tristan shrouded in darkness, rising high before a set of mountains, controlling dozens of fire-breathing dragons as they way waste to the cities below... He declares that Winter must set out as soon as possible to seek out his long-lost Brother and learn of his whereabouts. Clerics of Lathander have no problem with death - accepting the fact that death is only the journey between life and meeting the Morninglord - but the Cleric demands that he will never sleep soundly unless he is assured that his vision is not reality. He did explain what Winter must do in the event that his vision became reality. But he also deems that Winter travels to Shadowdale, home of Elminster, a wise mage who is a friend of Godric's and could possibly have more information about his past.
Understanding what he needed to do, Winter immediately deemed goodbye to his colleagues, to his Sister, Alessia (who now remains the Head Cleric of the church while Godric remains ill) and Godric, and set off for his quest in finding his lost Brother. Before he left, he made one last proper prayer to Lathander at the dawn of the morning of his departure (as is common practice), asking for a safe journey and to "Light any path that may seem eternally dark".
Taking only a simple set of armor, a longsword and shield that he was taught to be proficient in (being a citizen of Archenbridge, the Church and powerful Archendale Army go hand in hand together, so a lot of the same teachings are brought back and forth between the two, including basic use of martial weapons and shields), a pack with essential camping gear (tent & bedroll, fishing net, dry wood, knives, map, hatchet, etc.), a wooden carved symbol of the Morninglord attached to a chain necklace, and his teachings and wisdom, Winter sets off northeast in the footsteps of his brother two years prior.
Arriving in the town of Ordulin, he hears rumors of a man in Tristan's physique being spotted to the west, on the road towards Highmoon. He decides only to say in town long enough to purchase a good night's rest in the local Inn and to make a small donation to the local Chapel of Lathander before he sets out the next morning for Highmoon.
After three days rough travel, he notices a sign marking a small detour north about halfway between the two towns, and decides to take it. About a quarter of a mile north, he stumbles into the small town of Oakhurst. As he arrives, seeing nobody in the streets around town, he immediately walks to and enters the Ol' Boar Inn...
