Kietz Llatrael

Kietz Llatrael: A little taste of history.

Born the youngest of five, Kietz was the only son of a cloth merchant in Tasseldale. Nothing made his sisters happier than tormenting him from infancy through puberty into early adulthood. While it was all in good fun, it did make him wary, but highly respectful, of women of all ages and all sizes. Even though the torment continued, he grew to outsize everyone in his family, including his father, who was quite the large man himself from driving a caravan and loading and unloading bolt upon bolt of cloth through his fifty years of trade.

Kale, his father, while overjoyed upon Kietz's birth, had already previously resigned himself to never having a son so Kietz was never expected to take over the business nor be a major player within it. His mother, Syra, while quite surprised by the birth of a son after so many daughters, was nonetheless happy and felt blessed. Kietz's parents raised him to work hard, care for those around him, and respect all life in love of the gods. Because he was the youngest, they neglected to teach him that Toril was a dangerous place and not all people, or other inhabitants, were deserving of these things. This caused Kietz to be a little unwise to the world's dangers and to the evils that beings are capable of. Everything he heard was so watered down that, while he knew not all was perfect in the world, he had no idea at how vile things could be. The naivete he held made him a loving and happy person with few cares, but one set-up for the inevitable let down that would eventually come one day.

Kietz did anything and everything to help his family be happy and prosper, but "clothing all of Faerun in the finest of wares," as his father always said, never struck him as a noble enough or overly honorable cause. He saw the priests and soldiers laboring daily to make the town a better and safer place. This struck him as something of importance. This was what he felt life should be. THe structure and order of the militia and the temples called to him daily.

What finally convinced him to his heart's desire was the time when his father's caravan was ambushed by bandits on a deep wooded road. Luckily, as the attack commenced, three soldiers of Torm came up the road from the other direction, and seeing what was taking place, they immediately attacked the bandits crying their god's name with a vengeance. When Kietz heard the tale, he was incensed and knew what had to be done. He immediately went to the local temple and pledged his loyalty to Torm and received his initiate training.

Because of his physical size and strength, they trained him in the way of the church's warriors. They knew he would not be content sitting still in a temple. The bandit attack had lit a fire in his heart, and he felt the need to venture out into the world and eliminate all its remaining evils.

His parents suspected their son would leave one day since he was not necessarily needed in the business and seemed anxious to get out a lot. His calling struck them strange, but important nonetheless. On the day that his initiate training ended, they wished him farewell with a happy sadness and a pouch of coins. The temple of Torm sent him forth to seek his place in the world and to watch for the evils of Bane. He was to find where he was most needed and join an order of Knights or Priests. Kietz wanted to be sure that they were not only worthy of him but he of them when he finally found those he could fight besides.

With that he ventured forth down the eastern running road into the lasds of Faerun unknowing of the challenges he would face in the months and years ahead.
