Background Story
(if you dont want to spoil the fun discovering her story ingame, dont read further)

Her father was scribe at a baron''s castle and the confident of the old baron.
When the old bron died suddenly and his son took over the barony, Mandrienas father got chased, not without cutting his tongue and cutting off his thumb, for he could never say or write down the secrets of the barony.
Also her father tried to cultivate some grain and fruits, he couldn''t work enough to feed his wife and child. So her mother had to work hard too. All in all it was not easy for her to find any work, as the people feared to attract he bad humor of the new baron by helping them, or just thought by hurting them even more they would gain the estimation of the new baron.
Mostly Mandriena worked with her father on the fields, but sometimes she had to help her mother to bring goods to sell or work she did to the village. Nearly every time when she was alone on her way back the children started to attack her. She fought back with such force and furor, that they soon only approached as group or threw stones. Hurt at body and soul she fled after such fights into the near woods to cry out her anger and pain.
With the time she grew stronger and fought better, but also grew wiser and tried to avoid those fights more and more, as she feared to cause her parents even more trouble with those brawls.
She also grew more sensible for the world around her. So she realized, that her father did much better in the seasons where he could work outside, surrounded by the growing herb and plants, then in the cutting season or the winter.

Then the time arrived, that she became a woman, and around this time, she saw the first time the wolf. From this day on, he seemed to be there ever day standing at the border of the forest, watching her, but never approaching. When she told her parents one evening about the wolf, her father got very agitated. He gesticulated and tried to tell his family something but they didn''t understand.

During the next days he didn''t stop trying to explain his thought, and finally with some figurines he formed from clay and some rough pictures on the ground he managed. His wife remembered the story of some wise woman in the woods, who lived far from the village and was seen only once or twice in the last 20 years. But she was told to be familar with wild animals. Mandriena didn''t feel ready to venture alone in the woods, to seek a woman where none knew where she lives exactly, but every time she worked on the fields with her father, she saw not far, at the border of the woods, a wolf, like he was waiting for her.

One day, Mandriena had to carry bag of grains to sell them to the village miller. On her way back she met some boys who became men, and who realised she became a woman, so they started to chase her. She fled to the woods, tried to hide somewhere, but the boys found her, with three they forced her down to the ground, and didn''t leave any doubt on their intention. the fight to free herself was desperate.
But before they could do what they intented to, the large wolf darted in and howled. The boys paniced and fled, but the wolf didn''t chase them, and rather went to lick Mandriena face and tears.
She welcomed this comfort, but was too afraid to do anything in return, but slowly realised the wolf didn''t want her any harm, so she gathered her courage to gratify him with a warm pet on his neck, and suddenly she felt safe in a way she never experienced before. The wolf started to move walking some steps in a direction, then coming back, as if he wanted to her to go there. But she wanted to go home.
On her way home, the wolf following her few steps behind, she heard villagers in her parents fields. When they saw her, they all threw stones pronouncing her name as a curse. She realised that it would never end, that she would be a pain to her parents peaceful life, so she gave up, and ran back into the woods, and followed her new companion.

After two days of walk in the woods, they reached a small hut on a clearing, where an old woman was sitting in the sun.

The old Woman teaches her to master her gifts, to live in harmony with the nature and to forget about the other people..
After several peacefull years, the old woman didnt wake up one morning. Mandriena burried her, but she had no aquired yet the calm to spent her life alone in the woods, so she prepared to leave. She took dried herbs and some potions, a thick vest made from hides and leather and the old woman''s sickle, closed carefully the hut, called for her wolf-friend and left the clearing to walk twards places where she may be needed.
