Cassandra has always been unusually interested in the politics of the bigger races and in the struggle between good and evil. She made a few human friends early in her life and sometimes travelled with them to the big people's cities. As her interest in politics and ethics matured, so did her spiritual insight and she came to regard spirituality as the essential foundation for all morality. At the age of 22 (roughly equivalent to the age of 16 for a human), she became an initiate in the clerical order of Ilmater. One day she was set upon by brigands in the wild and would have perished if not for a party of paladins of Tyr that fortunately enough were in the neighbourhood. The valor and virtue of the paladins inspired her and she joined their party for a period. After returning to her temple she declared her intent to become a paladin of Ilmater's church, and so forsook her pursuit of establishing the magical link with the divine for the utter devotion of her physical prowess to Ilmater's cause. Back home in her birth village of Farfourke she has always looked up to her cheerful and boisterous cousin Bogu as a role model, admiring him especially for his adventuresome spirit and his courage. Bogu has been operating as a ranger around the outskirts of Farfourke since half a dozen years before Cassandra's birth, and he has taught his younger cousin a thing or two about his fighting style. Unlike most of her profession Cassandra fights with grace and speed rather than brute force and she prefers to fight armed with a dagger in each hand, relying on her nimbleness and parrying expertise - as well as her luck when the two former fail - to keep her out of harm's way.
Cassandra is a loyal servant of her order, but not a mindless follower. She will continue to serve Ilmater with loyalty and devotion for as long as she views it as a boon to the world. She is fascinated by the complexity of human politics, but somewhere deep inside she harbours a belief that mankind could learn much by observing the typical anarchistic, self-sufficient halfling community. She harbours an intense hatred towards all things undead, but she strives to attain understanding for all things living - even beings that most (including within her own church) regard as evil beyond amendment, such as orcs or drow. The virtues of her pursuit are humility, compassion, industriousness, respect, responsibility and reckfulness. She wears a pendant depicting a triquetra in a circle which to her symbolizes these virtues and the wholesomeness they form when combined in balance.
Cassandra has a younger sister back in Farfourke, Fifi, who looks up to her and adores her like a goddess. Fifi is not bold like her cousin Bogu or zealous like her sister Cassandra but instead typically cautious for her kin, and she prefers to stay in the safety of the village, working in the fields and occasionally travelling with Bogu to the moon elves of the Misty Forest for singing, dining and frolicking. Cassandra harbours the deepest love for her younger sister and has tried her best to care for her and raise her despite her numerous duties ever since the siblings lost their parents. Fifi has come to love Cassandra as a mother and Bogu as a father, although the age gap between the three is virtually insignificant.
