Drums of War: Sunday Morning Campaign [03:30 PM 02/02/03 GMT]
The Western Heartlands of the Forgotten Realms face a time of tumult. With the coming of spring, brigands and humanoid raiders have erupted from the forests and mountains of the West to descend upon the trade roads, disrupting the commerce that is the lifesblood of the numerous city-states of this region.
One such place is the prosperous city of Elturel, perched upon a bluff overlooking the River Chionthar. Its ruler, the just paladin Lord Dhelt of Helm, is finding it difficult to both deal with these depredations and keep his citizens safe at the same time. Just recently he has sent a significant force of his Hellriders to join with the armies mustered by his peers in other cities to deal with a huge bandit incursion to the east. But now new attacks have just been reported along the roads to the west, in the shadows of the gnarled mountains known as the Troll Claws.
Fortunately Faerun is rich in another resource: adventurers. A party of veterans has recently come down from the North, accompanied by tales of great deeds and brave service in the aid of the dwarves of Torgan's Delve. But can even such heroes aid the embattled cities of the west, when the entire region echoes with the sounds of the Drums of War?

Welcome to both returning and new players.
Drums of War is my latest module, designed for mid to high-level characters. Following the precedent from "Torgan's Delve," it is only lightly scripted and most of the NPCs will be played directly by the DM.
The campaign will continue weekly at this day and time until completed. I anticipate anywhere from 4-8 sessions depending on the pace players set. A successful campaign depends on regular participation by its members, but I understand that often real life intrudes into the game. For the sake of your fellow players, please don't sign up for the campaign if you cannot attend regularly at the scheduled time and day. Players who miss frequently will be replaced.
The game uses server vault characters. Item level restrictions are NOT activated. New characters will receive 25,000xp (enough to reach 7th level) and 3,000gp upon entering the server. That isn't a lot of money for a character of that level, but I tend to be generous with treasure in my games and you should get better gear and loot fairly quickly. Returning players with less than 25,000xp will get a boost to raise them to that level.
My games emphasize cooperative play and good roleplaying in a setting with lots of action and tactical challenges. If this isn't your favored style of play, you may not enjoy this campaign. Players that engage in gratuitous PvP, profanity, and/or disruptive behavior will be booted and/or banned.
Upon joining, and before the first session, players will receive a letter from Lord Dhelt of Elturel, enjoining their aid against the caravan raiders along the West Road. Players are encouraged to use the game message board to discuss tactics, introduce themselves (if new to the group), and otherwise simulate their first meeting. It will be assumed that the characters already know each other when the game begins in the waiting room of Lord Dhelt's castle in Elturel.
The game uses the Hard Core Ruleset (HCR), version 2.0. Please examine the "Server Rules" section below for more information about HCR.
