Game History

Staff of Balance: WS1-Staff of Order [01:00 AM 03/14/03 GMT]
in the first Age of Kerthom the Wizards of Balance led by the Archmage D Nai Stormcaller kept an uneasy truce between the eight Balance races Elves and Goblins Humans and Halflings Archons and the Undead Dwemer good dwarves and Duergar evil dwarves were held in balance with the might of the Staff of Balance wielded by D Nai Until an agent of Mordigash King of the Goblins was tricked into assasinating D Nai by the archlich Kaylock The war that ensued almost brought the extinction of the Dead along with the ultimate defeat of Kaylock The Halfling Prince realizing that the defeat of Kaylock would throw the world out of balance stole the Staff of Balance from the campaign tent of the Elven King and broke it upon the ground where D Nai was killed The staff fractured into equal parts each containing the essence of an ethos The races claimed their portion of the staff and in council agreed to lock each segment of the Staff behind a mighty glyph of power so that no one being could regain all the pieces of the Staff and upset the balance between the races But all of this is ancient history The region where D Nai s assassination took place and the final battle for the Staff is now called the D Nai penninsula and it has been millenia since that Age But some wizards still crave power A new war is beginning The Wizard s Staff Campaign is a new campaign being started for level characters if I can get a few folks who wish to play I will be DMing most if not all of the story which I originally wrote back in the mystical days of graduate school if you can believe in such fairy tale times It is a tale told through many many modules and I hope to write them all though the first one is the only one finished and I am eager to learn from the DMing experience The campaign is relatively rich in story though there are hack and slash sections of it as well Because the tale is so long in the telling however these modules tend to be cash poor There are no random drops I have hand placed every reward and every encounter There are no infinite supply merchants in any of the towns or villages There is only permanent magic item in the entire first module the rest having charges or single use Likewise experience is handed out sparingly to keep folks from leveling up too fast If you prefer dungeons where you get lots of goodies you might wish to look elsewhere for another story If you re still interested in a good tale of good evil law and chaos and you d like to play in this campaign respond here and let s see what tale we can weave together As for needed classes you might wish to have a healer in your party Healing potions are rare Likewise a trustworthy rogue halfling though they may be has certain benefits to a party bent on keeping the Staff from falling into Kaylock s grasping fingerbones
